Timing your Contractions.

There's often confusion about timing contractions, do you time the space in between them? Do you write down how long they lasted and do you time from the beginning of one to the beginning of the next?

You ring the midwife and she asks "how often are you're contractions, how long have they been that often and how long do they last for?" and you're fumbling around with a biro and a bit of paper trying to work out what she wants to know....

There's a GREAT site here called www.contractionmaster.com which is a brilliant way of making sure that your contraction frequency and durations are accurate.

You don't have to register, you just click the link, go to the top where it says 'Start Timing Contractions' and press the space bar when your contraction starts, pressing it again when the pain stops. It logs the start, end, duration and frequency.

I'm not on comission :D I just know that my husband would've rather used this site than sitting by lamplight timing them with the SKY TV info box, a biro and a scrap of paper! :D

Thanks for that Bells. What a great thing that is. I'd just been wondering the other day exactly what info the hosp would need to know and how i was going to write it all down. Fantastic!

Yay! :D

What I would advise though is that you have a word document or notepad open and just copy, paste and save every hour or so just in case your internet crashes. It's a jolly simple little tool but really effective isn't it? Love it! thumbup

I can't believe you think mine are neat :D I wrote the first bit and DH wrote the columns. I think my writing looks like it was done by a 7 yr old :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has kept such momentoes, I always think it will be of some interest to me in the dim and distant future or even if my children go on to have children.... we can compare notes, Literally! :]

Hiya Rose :)) Lovely to see you back :))

I'm making a note of it for my sis too, it's a great invention isn't it? It should make your job easier too rather than having sketchy details of contractions babbled down the phone by panicking fathers-to-be :D

:DAbsolutley. I usually end up having garbled, rushed panting conversations (and thats just the panicky dads....!) on the phone re how "long" contractions last- this'll be a doddle- I'm just wating for the day that mums to be come in to the labour ward with their computer print out of exactly how far along they are in labour...........
