Expecting twins

I'm 16 weeks pregnant with twins! ❤️❤️

It's taken me a good while to get around to posting my news (cautious/paranoid after multiple previous miscarriages), but having made it through the 1st trimester I'm allowing myself to get excited & starting to feel more optimistic.

My belly is expanding rapidly & I'm at the point now where none of my regular clothes fit, so have been doing a bit of online maternity clothes shopping this week.

We're also starting to think about all sorts of things, like:

- what double pushchair to buy. Any suggestions for side by side ones that are not too bulky & good for off road terrain?
- should we start them in the same/separate cots?
- whether they should share a nursery/have their own rooms
- how on earth I'm going to manage feeding & sleep schedules
- how I'm going to cope for the 3 nights a week my DH works away from home
- what sort of car seats to buy

DH is still paranoid things will go wrong and doesn't want us to tell our neighbours about the pregnancy yet (hard not to when we live in a small village & they'd have to be blind not to notice my expanding waistline!) whereas I want to be able to share our news & wear my bump with pride. He also doesn't want us to tell anyone other than immediate family & a few very close friends that it's twins - in case something goes wrong over the coming months. Has anyone else experienced this?

Fantastic news dazzel! Hope you don't mind me commenting here! I am currently 36 weeks preg with one but someone close to me is expecting just one but s 19 weeks now and her partner s exactly the same but her midwife says its natural to be anxious but it's not healthy for the expecting mum! I hope this helps!

My friend has twins now 5 months old and she has the bugaboo donkey it can be double or single and its not bulky she is only tiny and is fab for country and also the town. If you only have one babe with you the second side can be used for a basket! We even looked at it for only one. It is expensive but she loves it. I have a emmaljunga Pram and can't wIt to use it but they do a double. We live in country but lots of friends are in town and it will be good for both!

Congratulations again and enjoy! Xx

Thanks Hello & Sasha.

Congrats Hello! Not too long for you to wait now.

We like the look of the Bugsboo Donkey but have only looked online so far. Hoping to take a look in store at the weekend. I know my DH is really excited, he's just very cautious too. He won't let me do anything in case it puts the pregnancy at risk. Nice to be looked after but can drive me nuts too!!

Just booked on a 1 day parenting course for multiples in July, so hoping that will help put us both on the right track.

Also wondering when we should start antenatal classes. Don't want to leave it too late & find babies arrive early before we actually attend the classes.

Xx

Oh Dazzle this is fabulous news! Congratulations!!!! Our friends and family still don't know that my pregnancy started out as a twin pregnancy and in some respects that makes me sad because I feel that we never have given our other baby full recognition.

I think as far as you are on if any thing awful were to happen you would struggle to hide it so people would find out anyway so why not let them enjoy the excitement too.

I wish you a very happy and healthy pregnancy!

Hi Ashastar & Onewish. So lovely to hear from you & thank you so much for your good wishes.sorry I've been off the radar so long.

How are you both getting on with your little ones?

Onewish, I'm so sorry I had no idea you'd lost one of your twins. That must be so tough.

I agree, I'm ok with telling everyone I'm pregnant & that it's twins, at this point. It's DH that's hard to convince.

Take care ladies.

Dazzle! I am absolutely over the moon to hear this news it's amazing!

Twins are incredible, it's hard work but the best thing ever!
We have the bugaboo donkey, really happy with it, u can fit through spaces well, there is only an issue when u have the car seats on the pram but that would be the same whichever one u get.

Car seats we have maxi cosi cabriofix no issues with them.

I went to ante natal early and was glad I did as girls came at 30 weeks but I have 2 friends who have twins who got to 37 weeks
Any questions at all just ask and I will help where I can
I am so excited for u

So lovely to hear from you Pip. How are you & your twins doing? How old are they now?

Thanks for the info on buggies & car seats. Feels like a total minefield at the moment.

Did you use Moses baskets/cribs or start with cot(s) straight away? Did/do your twins share a cot/room?

How early did you start your antenatal classes? friends of ours just had a little girl at 32 weeks which has got me a little bit panicked about how early the twins could be.

Sorry, that's quite a few questions!

Girls r 10 months now and doing great
We used Moses baskets to start with one each in our room

Now they share a bedroom each had their own cot, they don't really wake each other up if one cries the other tends to sleep through. I had one travel cot downstairs and they used to share that for naps during the day but they don't both fit anymore.
I think it was about 24 weeks I started the antenatal.
We went to a tamba practical parenting class as well.

Are your twins non identical?
R u going to find out sex?

Thanks Pip. Glad to hear your girls are doing well.

Good to know what other people are doing rather than just guessing what works. I definitely could do with some practical parenting advice!

They're non identical. We haven't decided yet whether or not to find out the sex. Part of me wants to wait but then I also think preparing for twins would be that bit easier if we knew whether to buy stuff for boys/girls/one of each. Where we live there aren't any shops with baby stuff nearby so we need to be really well prepared well in advance. I don't want to be making a 2 hr round trip for things with twins in tow!!

My family are beside themselves with excitement that it's twins - I'm a twin, so is my mum, & so we're my grandma's siblings, so it's quite a family tradition (though these will be the first IVF twins in the family). My in-laws are really excited too - first twins in the family for them.

Oh I bet they are excited it's fantastic news. Wow twins really do run in your family!!!

I understand your DH's fears it's hard not to worry when you go through the mill.

Being a parent is soooo hard but also so rewarding you're going to love it! We are now hitting the terrible two's and I can honestly say they are indeed terrible lol!!!!! You have it all to look forward to but double the trouble! :snigger:

That's so nice that you are a twin having twins, u will know exactly what it's like growing up with some2 all the time. I get pangs of guilt about making sure I'm being exactly fair, u will know what it's like from the other side so probably won't worry as much.

That is also one of the questions u get when u have twins, do they run in ur family, and I'm always wondering whether to tell people about IVF or not. U can just say yes lol

We found out so we could prepare and also pick names, didn't want a 2nd choice girls name if u know what I mean, but also the surprise would b lovely.

One wish is ur LO 2! wow! It does go fast

Hey, I'm ok thanks. No update on baby plans at the moment I'm afraid. Will either be donor eggs or adoption but I think we'll adopt as we have no funds at all for another cycle sadly xx
