Taxihome and Baby Mimi

Hi Everybody,
Just thought I should let everyone know some important news as we need some good wishes and prayers for one of our special ladies.
It's a good job that Taxihome was so organised with getting her nursery ready, because naughty little Mimi has decided she may put in an appearance more than just a little bit early at 29+6 weeks.
Taxi's waters broke very unexpectedly about 5 o'clock this afternoon, but as yet she isn't having any contractions, which is a good sign. She is tucked up in a lovely hospital bed, Mimi has been monitored and so far everything is ok. Taxi has had a big dose of steroids to beef up Mimi's lungs and is on antibiotics to prevent an infection now that her waters aren't intact anymore.
What we're all hoping for is that there are no contractions for 48 hours, then there is a chance the two lovely girlies can go home and that Mimi can cook for a little while longer.

I have promised her that we will all say lots of prayers for them both and think about them often. Also, if Mimi does come over the next couple of days as expected, then she will be in good hands and everything will be fine. Let's just all hope though that Mimi stays where she is.

I will be back as soon as I have any more info

Morning! Update from the antenatal ward is still no contractions (phew) and mum and baby doing ok. 4:45 tomorrow afternoon is the time she's aiming for, since 90% of ladies start contracting within 48hrs of membranes rupturing. Steroids again at 7pm unless the dreaded contractions start, and definitely staying in hospital at least til tomorrow.
She's slightly reassured by the fact that both her man-babies came at this gestation too, and they are now strapping young men; but it's still a massively scary time.
Hang on in there lovely girl

Thanks for the update Sultry, what happens if she doesn't have contractions, can they just send her home with her waters broken?

Apparently so. The amniotic fluid will just continue to replenish itself and keep trickling out (sorry if TMI!!!) and Taxi will be taking her antibiotics to prevent any infection. She will be seen regularly by the hospital and scanned regularly, I'd expect more than once weekly. Then if there's any sign of Mimi being compromised in any way, shape or form, Taxi will be induced.
She has been for a tour of the SCBU and she says it is lovely. Separate quiet rooms for breastfeeding, pumps for expressing, with a loan service too. Plus they have prem baby clothes for sale on the unit which is nice.

Sorry for the delay girls, but lots has happened.
Everything was fine yesterday evening, Taxi managed a second steroid dose and some more antibiotics, but didn't have much Mimi movement. The consultant said this was because there was so little fluid that Mimi wouldn't be swishing about, kicking left, right and centre.
Taxi was back on the monitoring this morning, with Mimi trying to boot it off, typical naughty curly girly! Unfortunately, Taxi then had a fairly decent contraction, but luckily no more, so I breathed a sigh of relief.
Then her blood results came back which were suggestive of a developing infection and so we were back on tenterhooks, waiting for the ward round and a decision for a plan of action.
However......
Little Mimi, true to form, took matters into her own hands and threw a strop, having a few quite alarming decelerations, where her heart rate dipped just a bit too low........
So at 1040, while still texting me (typical Taxi!!!!!!), Taxi and Mimi were zoomed to Theatre for an Emergency C-section.

I haven't had any news yet, but as soon as I do, I'll broadcast it. She knows we are all thinking of her and is eternally grateful. She also can't believe that we all love her so much!!! (ooops, not sure if I was meant to share that!)

We're rooting for you girlies, can't wait for a picture, I'm guessing 4lb 2oz!!

blowkiss

She's here!!!!!!

:congrats: :balloons: :congrats: :balloons:
Amelia Eva Mae Rance was born this morning at 11:25am.
She is extremely tiny, weighing in at a very dainty 2lbs 9ozs. She has a big mop of dark hair and apparently a decent set of lungs, shouting from the rooftops in theatre!

Mimi has had to go to the Intensive Care Unit for some help with her breathing and a little bit of extra support, but everyone is remaining hopeful that she will be a fighter like her Mummy and be out of there as soon as possible.

Taxi herself is obviously grinning from ear to ear, as is Mr Taxi! Her legs are just starting to come back after the epidural, so she'll be back down in that NICU after a shower and a cuppa, clucking like a Mummy hen over her little princess. She's also over the moon that she doesn't have to buy her DH a birthday prezzie for Monday now, though I feel it's a bit OTT myself!!!!

Obviously this is going to be a scary time for Taxi, and for baby Mimi, but we know she is made of strong stuff and I'm sure she'll be on soon with a humorous take on the whole situation!

But until then, a very Happy Birthday to baby Mimi, massive congratulations to both Taxi and Gav and we can't wait to her from you with a picture of your curly girly!

blowkiss

PS: Thanks again SultrySapphire for the broadcast your funny way of telling the news was greatly reassuring. Even if these are (a bit) scary times a good sense of humour is always helpful.

Is Mimi staying in an incubator or is the help a ventillator?

Message for Taxi: if you are still determined to breastfeed be prepared for the evil nurse who will wake you up in the middle of the night! (not from personal experience from the stories of a breastfeeding mum of a now 7 month old boy who was born at 30 weeks like Mimi)
