Advice Please Re: Yolk Sac

Hello

I wondered whether anyone could give me advice...
I am six weeks pregnant, I had a little scare earlier on in the week and was sent to EPAU (Early pregnancy assessement unit) at my local hospital for a scan last thursday.
When having an internal scan the Doctor saw the gestational sac with a little something inside (One of my embies) measuring 4.1mm. No heartbeat seen, as too early?, and no yolk sac seen either.
Looking on the Internet yolk sacs are visible at 5 weeks..
I am slightly concerned and wondered if anyone could give me any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks

hi twink
so pleased you got your bfp!
i wish i could help but i cant get past the 6 weeks stage and have never really been given much advice on foetal poles n yolk sacs but im sure someone will reply soon who can

hopefully your lo was just too small to see when you were scanned and therefor too early for the heartbeat.
have you got a date in a weeks time for a rescan?

thinking of you

HI Twinky, yolks CAN be visible from 5 wks, but not everyone's. Same for the heartbeat. It CAN be seen from 6 weeks, but not always. It also depends on their scanning machine. They did see something inside the sac so xfingers it's just too small to see at this stage. Unfortunately you need to wait a bit longer.
Good luck babydust
ps- keep away from the internet and google.

Thank you very much for your replies!
Yes let's hope it's just to early and I am getting worried about nothing.
I have a date at my clinic, BH, to have my scan on 1st March. I should be then heading into my 8th week xfingers the EPAU i attended last Thursday would like to see me again this coming Thursday 24th, but I was thinking about waiting (although tempted to know) for my actual clinic appointment - They are the experts.

I will keep away from Google and the Internet.

Thank You again.

Hi Twink, congrats on your BFP! My clinic doesn't like to scan before 7 weeks because it can be too early to see the heartbeat etc. Cathy xxxx [zx127]

hi there

I was scanned at 5 plus 6 and told that my uterus was empty. I was scanned at 6 plus 2 and told I had a sac but no embie inside. I was then scanned at 6 plus 4 and they saw sac, yolk and heartbeat. PLease dont panic yet it can sometimes take a while to show up.

Also I had a very retroverted uterus and it was not until I was scanned with my fists under my bum and my bottom raised off the table did they see anything. This rights itself during pregnancy. Might be worth asking them to check this when you next get scanned.

Hi Twink

I am sorry you are having this scare. As everyone has said it is early. If I were you I would take up the offer of the next scan too. But that is just what I would do.
I know that my clinic too said no scans prior to 7 weeks as they can not see anything.
Try not to worry yourself & try not to google. It will just drive you mad.
