So glad to hear you had a nice quick labour - I'm hoping for one of them!! Looking forward to the birth story. I had thought things might be starting for us last night - been in a funny mood all day, then had a bad stomach, feeling a bit sick generally, and some sharp stabbing pains or cramps low in my stomach, but they seem to have all gone away today. Ah well - maybe we should try a curry tonight :) Not sure my usual korma will do the job though!

Fantastic news Nikki! :clap
My pacapod arrived today. First one went missing so they dispatched another one. I think it was Jewels who asked which one I'd ordered, it is the Almora in black. It looks great. Think I'm going to go and fill it with things and play mummy! Also got the isofix base for our (nearly) new car this morning so our car seat is all ready to go when we need it. Not sure I can wait another seven weeks! It is like waiting up for Father Christmas from the start of November! Come on baby hurry up! Xx

Well, I had a curry last night and pineapple, and daily cups of raspberry leaf tea but still no news. I promised myself I wouldn't get impatient until after the due date but I just can't help it! Because my first arrived on the EDD I have been assuming this one would be early! I have been getting lots of braxton hicks though and lower back pain and it just gets my hopes up that something is happening!

Sasha - I am glad everythng went well for the wedding, and well done for managing to dance! How annoying that you feel hungover without the fun of drinikng!

Whiteangle - I didn't know what Pacapod was so I have just googled it....very nice!!!!

Caraz - How are you feeling, any sign of anything happening????

xx

morning ladies

Jasper - I know what you mean about getting impatient! I'm not quite 40 weeks yet, but really, really want things to happen soon! If for no other reason than that DH is starting to irritate me with his winces of sympathy whenever he sees me trying to rearrange myself in bed, or get up and walk (which is becoming increasingly difficult and painful)!! Typical DH, he just wants to help me somehow, but of course there's nothing he can do (other than the vaccuming, cooking, and generally waiting on me hand and foot - which I have really got used to lately  )

Sasha - glad to hear the wedding went well in the end, after all that stress! Impressed you even managed some dancing!!

Nikki - hope all is going well with Grace, can't wait to read about the birth - any chance of a photo when you get time?

AFM, still nothing happening, not so much as a twinge :( Seeing the MW on Wednesday for 40 week check-up, not sure if they do an examination at that point to see if anything is happening? Probably not, given total lack of any signs!! One of the antenatal ladies is now 11 days overdue, and being induced this week - really don't want to go on that long!! Will probably get booked in for a sweep early next week I guess?

We had a lovely weekend, had a friend visiting all day Saturday (the one who cancelled last week :)), and then went for Sunday lunch at a lovely country pub yesterday, followed by a stroll along the canal. If baby still hasn't arrived by next weekend, we're going out for a big breakfast at the local garden centre, as its unlikely we'll get there again for a while afterwards!

Fantastic news Nikki! And welcome to Grace - our 1st 3rd tri baby! So glad it was fast, and hoping you had a good experience.

Sorry for lack of posts, I managed to forget to put this thread on my favourites to have wondered why it was so quiet... Duh. Baby Brain has definitely struck. Has anyone else had this? I keep forgetting things, or am halfway through a thought and then it's just gone!

Sounds like everyone's getting impatient! I am also ready to meet my little Speckle, even though it's still a long 8 weeks to go - like Whiteangel, I don't know how I'll last that long! I do want to get prepared in terms of the hospital bag etc just in case he comes early though.

Great choice of bag Whiteangel, those are the ones I like too. Am really hoping that my work will give me vouchers for John Lewis when I leave and I can buy one with those...

Sasha, it's great that you're not worrying about your size, my cousin is 3 weeks ahead of me, and she hardly look spregnant compared to me, but her baby has been scanned alot and she's prefectly healthy. I guess different people just carry differently. Less to lose afterards too ;) Lucky thing!

We had a 3D scan on Thurs last week -it was so lovely. Baby was a bit camera-shy but we got some good shots in the end with lots of wriggling around. He gave us a lovely smile, and he yawned which was too cute. we're so in love with him already :)

Had our last hypnobirthing class on Sat, followed by lunch with the couples we did it with. It was really nice, 2 lovely couples, and the girls have already arrnaged to meet up in a couple of weeks. I really hope I'll be able to have a birth the hypnobirthing way, but even if it's not quite right, I think the techniques will help me anyway. we went for a hospital tour on Fri which was nice the Birthing unit was nice. Although they hadn't cleaned the room we were shown, and the bathroom was awful, so that was a bit worrying... I bumped into a hypnobirthing friend and she complained about it afterwards which I was pleased about. They said that would never happen, but it did worry me. Imagine being in labour and getting to the hospital and the room is dirty. It would be too much.

Anyway, god luck to Caraz, any day now...hopefully! Unless LO has their own plans ;) I love the name by the way and would've pronounced it the same as everyone else. I like it spelt with a C. Sweet.

OK girls, I am shattered after hosting a party at ours yesyerday and my back is killing me. Did far too much, and am paying for it today. Trying to decide whether to cancel yoga and slouch on the couch, or whether it will actually benefit me... laziness is winning at this stage!

Have a good evening, and may you all sleep like babies!

I have been having braxton hicks all day now some with some slight discomfort and pressure down below. I don't want to get my hopes up but maybe things are making a very slow start! I didn't experience and brxton hicks until the night before I went in to labour last time where as I have been havng them for a while this time so I can't compare! Maybe the curry, pineapple and [zx084] at thee weekend has got things moving!!!! I will keep you all updated, but I am sure I will be back tomorrow saying the same thing!

Did the weather hold out for your party Jewels? I am getting fed up with the forecast always being rain when some days have been OK, it makes it difficult to make plans! What are the thoughts behind hypnobirthing, is it to avoid pain releif? I am certainly suffering with baby brain too!

Caraz don't worry about not having any twinges. When I had DS nothing happenend up until I went in to labour and then it was very quick!!!!

Have a good evening everyone!

Morning girls

Caraz, Jasper any sign of those babies yet?

Had my last growth scan yesterday there saying baby is about 5'11, not sure how accrate the scan is.

Then asked the midwife if the head was engaged and she seemed quite surprised by how engaged but didn't tell me how far, i was suppose to have a mw app 2 weeks on Fri and she has asked me to change it to a week on Fri so kinda getting my hopes up that baby is gonna come a little early, if not the consultant has booked me in for a membrane sweep the day before my due date. I had actually felt really calm until i left the hospital but all seems very real now :S

Sun is out at the moment hopefully it lasts.

Have a lovely day x

Hi everyone!!

Jasper any news yet?????

Jewels so how do you think your hypnobirthing is going to help durring labour???? I have enjoyed all the relaxation, mind I have not finsihed mine yet ihave a few more weeks yet and I have not done all of my MP3's yet so not got them all mastered.

Sasha sounds like things are on the way!!

I had my appointment with my midwife today, and it was the one that I dont really like and I have come out of it a bit pissed off really. Last appoinemtn I had a really nice midwife as she was off and she explained everything like where the baby was lying and went into detail and spoke to me about the birth and stuff. This week I go in, she dipps my urine and it has glucose in it and she say oh right and that was it, so asked if this is something to worry about and she said no not really. She had a feel of my belly and did not say anything, so I said is his head still down and she asked why and said that last week the midwife said his head was down low, she said bums and heads feel the same so it hard to tell, i would say he is breach at the moment but who knows. I asked if she could hear where my placenta was as I am dying to know if it has moved, she thinks that it is at the front by my belly button, when i told her it had been posterior when I had my scan she said oh well myabe that was your umbilical chord I was listenign to........again who knows!!! And dont get me started on the baby measurements lol......She measured me at my 28 appointment as 30cm, the nice midwife measured me at my 31 weeks appointment as 31cm, she has measured me tody at 34 weeks as 36cm.......again should I be worried......nah its only a ruff guide and I the other midwife obviously measured you wrong so we will go by my measurements lol. I work in the health care profession and I am always professional and give the client as much info and reasurance as I am able and would never be so bloody wishy washy with someone......................sorry rant over.......hormone overdrive lol.

Cant wait for scan on Monday now to find out if my placenta has moved and which way the baby actually is. Been having a lot of heartburn recently......apparently i am going to have a hairy baby lol!!!

Hope everyone else is well : D

Oh wow Taffycaz, I'd be annoyed too! Why does she bother being a midwife is she can't actually do any of the things she's supposed to? I also don't like my usual one, she just doesn't really do anything / tell me anything so I was quite chuffed to hear she was away again when I booked my next appt. It will be funny to see how accurate she was/wasn't when you have your scan on Monday -hope it goes well and your placenta has moved and baby is head down!

A couple of you have asked about hypnobirthing, so I'll give you a quick synposis:
The basis of it is that if we go into labour feeling relaxed, and not resisting what is supposed to happen naturally, then it will happen easier, quicker and without pain (more discomfort). The theory is that when you resist something, then you feel pain. So if you are scared of pain, and are trying to force your uterine muscles to do what they're not supposed to do (like push at the wrong time) then you are going to feel pain, and cause tearing etc. So the idea is that it teaches you what is supposed to happen naturally, how your muscles are supposed to work, and shows you alot of videos etc where women really aren't getting hysterical about labour or the pain etc and are just very relaxed, and they really don't get pain like we see on OBEM. So it teaches you to relax yourself into a really deep state, and how to breathe with the muscles to facilitate easier birthing, the different breaths at different stages, and techniques to almost 'self-hypnose' yourself. So in a way you're just letting your body and the baby get on with it, in the way that they're supposed to, without interfering. I love the philosophy, and it's not really saying that you can't have pain relief, but more that if you do it properly, and practise it everyday, you shouldn't need much pain relief. I'm seriously hoping that's going to be the case in reality. Labour is supposed to be shorter, easier and happier for the baby too. That's pretty much what I've taken from it, there's alot more to it, it's about 12 hours in sessions, and alot of practise, but I have loved every minute.

I am getting so many Braxton Hicks at the moment, and baby is SOOOO active! Funny how some days I panic as I think he's quiet, then others I can hardly concentrate as he's so busy. I'm scared people at work will notice my stomach moving of its own accord!

Jasper, we had great weather for our party - we were so lucky! It's my 10 year anniversary in the UK today, can you believe it?

Hope you're all ok and hanging in there... Sounds like there's a race on for 2nd place baby after Nikki!

Wednesday, June 20th 2012, 10:40am

morning,

Jewels - I've been using the natal hypnotherapy CDs, and as you describe they are great for helping to relax generally, and consciously relaxing the muscles down there to allow the uterus to do its thing. I haven't been to any classes, just used the CDs and the Effective Birth Preparation book. I was watching some youtube videos yesterday of births using the techniques, and they are so much calmer and more peaceful than the OBEM style!!

taffycaz - sorry to hear about your useless MW, it really isn't helpful when they are that vague! Hope the scan next week answers some of your questions a bit more helpfully. I've heard that theory about heartburn = hairy baby...I'm expecting to give birth to a yeti :)

sasha - I've not had any growth scans but have heard they are sometimes not that accurate - but I'm sure they would't do them if they didn't give at least a vague idea of size.

Jasper - anything happening yet?

AFM, just had MW 40 week appointment, still nothing happening with me. I'm booked in for a sweep next week if baby still hasn't appeared, and if that doesn't work it'll be an induction at 42 weeks. The MW prescribed hot curries and sex as the best things to get baby moving

Baby has shifted position a bit, and is threatening to be back-to-back at the moment, so I need to be doing some exercise to try and get her to shift back again. She hasn't been in that position before, so hopefully she'll swap back to normal soon. I need to be squatting or getting on all fours when I feel her moving apparently - I can see myself hanging over the birthing ball a lot the next few days!

Lovely weather here today, not sure I feel up to appreciating it though - I'll hang out indoors under the ceiling fan to stay cool :)

Caraz - hope your having a curry every night to get that baby moving :)

I'm really not coping with lack of sleep now, i feel totally shattered but can't sleep, had great plans for this week to get out a few walks and do some swimming but can't even face brushing my hair never mind going anywhere.

Hubby away to work so going to have a nice bath after tea and try and relax a bit

Hi everyone...I have some news.....I had a little girl at 1.41am on Tuesday after a very quick labour! We are all doing well and I plan to get back on here in the next few days with my birth story. I had another straight forward birth, I didn't get the waterbirth I had planned as they were still filling the pool when she arrived! :)

YAY Jasper congrats!! Looking forward to hearing all about it and seeing some gorgeous pics! Hang in there Caraz, you'll be next! In our hypnobirthing book, it says you can go for reflexology to help things along as well, there are points on the foot which directly relate to the uterus etc.

Sasha, have you got any relaxation tapes? When I listen to my hypnobirthing one at night it sends me to sleep almost immediately!

Otherwise nothing to report here, just plodding along at work and counting the weeks...

Hi Girls

Sasha, how are you doing? All going well still?

All fine with me, baby feels like he's growing by the day! We got the curtains for his little room on Fri, and put them up on Sat, and they look so sweet. They're stripy reds and blues, to match his seaside theme. The room looks too sweet, very happy with it. All we need now is the baby!

A few of my friends are throwing me a stork party / baby shower on Sat which I'm looking forward to. And then Sun is our first NCT class. Looking forward to meeting other mums-to-be, I hope there are nice girls there.

We went to Primark yesterday and I bought a cheap black nighie for the hospital, and also a dark towel to take with, so I'm not fussed if it gets all gross and ruined. Now I just need to get stuff for the baby / hospital bag. I feel like I should do it sooner rather than later just so I'm prepared, even though there is still time left. Babies don't seem to be aware of our dates though, so I thought I'd better be ready just in case!

How's everyone else doing? Hope you all had a nice weekend. It's lovely and sunny here today, but I don't know how long it will last. But I'm dressed all summery anyway! Might as well make the most of it :)

Have a good week everyone and hope you're all resting nicely. Is anyone else still working, or is it just me?

morning ladies

I thought today might be the day, but not too sure now! Woke up this morning about 5 feeling absolutely rotten, like food poisoning or something. Stomach cramps (contractions??), nausea, churning stomach. Ended up being sick (first time in the entire pregnancy), and felt really cold, shivering quite badly. After a couple of hours, it all went away, I've had some tea and toast and feel fine now!! Don't think it could be food poisoning as DH and I had exactly the same to eat last night and he is fine (other than asking me every five minutes if I'm ok and do we need to call the midwife :)).

Depressingly I've looked up the symptoms and yes it could be early labour, but it could be days yet before anything gets going!! Still no other signs, no show or Braxton Hicks or anything. Oh well, just have to be patient I suppose...she'll be out when she is good and ready.

jewels - our NCT classes were really good, and I have coffee with the other ladies regularly now - met the first three babies last week :) I hope you enjoy yours. I packed my bag about 32 or 33 weeks, because a couple of people I knew had gone into premature labour, so I wanted to be ready just in case!

Hope everyone is well.

Had my scan today, baby is good and everything is well. He is not breach like midwife said and his head in right down on my cervix and has vert little room to move. He is going to be a whopper lol, they have estimated that he weighs 7lbs now so if he keeps growing at this rate he could even be 10lbs at birth......ouch!!! Have to go back in 2 weeks for another scan as placenta has not moved, they could not see the placenta as his head is so far down and covering it, they said I might have to have an internal scan to check the placenta. And its definately a boy , you could see really plain and clear lol!! So i think i am all baby but i dont look that bog as some people, the scan pictures showed that he had chubby cheeks lol, aslong as he is healthy.

Hope everyone else is ok , Caraz Hope things get going for you soon, fingers crossed.

Glad he's doing well Taffycaz, and if he's going to be that big, I almost hope for your sake your placenta doesn't move and you don't have to push him out ;) But then as our hypnobirthing CD tells us - your baby is made for your body... ;)

I think you and I are both going to have big chubby boys :) I love chubby babies!!

Lol the birth affirmations say your baby will birth it self, lol yeah he will birth himself like the QE2!!!! Funny sat here laughing here about it, its a whole different matter when the times comes. Consultant said that bigger babbies are easier to give birth to......dont know why. Was looking at notes before and its head is already over 10cm, must take after his father with his big head and brains being a scientist lol, going to have to make sure I use that perinium cream twice a day. I was very calm about the birth, i thinki need to listen to my hynobirthing track fear and emotion release and cushion of comfort after today.

Morning girls

Taffycaz - 7lbs omg good luck :) although i have also heard bigger babies are easier to deliver, maybe coz there's no room left for them to wriggle about, i'm sure my baby is bigger than there saying and my cousin was just telling me she had a growth scan a week before her wee boy arrived, they said he was going to be just over 6lbs a week over due which was what her wee girl was so she never thought anything of it and she gave birth to a 9lbs baby so not sure how accurate the scans are then and that has terrified me how wrong they were lol.

Caraz - how you keeping?

Well i have had a few moments of this is it, on Friday morning i had a pain like the worst stich you have ever had multiplied by 100, couldn't walk or sit, couldn't breath and was in tears, phoned the midwife and said it wasn't contractions but to go to hosp and get it checked, of course by the time i got there the pain had pretty much gone, so the only explanation they could give was i had a urine infection (not heard anything back so assuming i don't) i'm having early labour pains or baby is just really pushing on my insides to get out and because my bump is measuring small he doesn't have a great deal of room, on Sat i still had some pain but nothing like the Fri then Sun into Mon i had it again, took me 10 min to walk down the stairs to the kitchen to get paracetamol then the only position that seemed to help was on all fours. Both times the pain has come and gone in a hour, very strange. Then then last few days i have felt quite sick and been to the toilet a few more times than normal (tmi sorry), who knows maybe i'm just hoping something is about to happen.

Got my pram yesterday which has made things seem so real, it's all made up just need a baby to put in it now :)

Well off to aquanatal to try and do a bit of exercise.

Have a nice day x

afternoon ladies,

sasha - hope you are feeling better and those pains have eased off - have you seen the doctor or mw again? It sounds a little like I had on Monday morning, that went after 2 hours and hasn't been back since. Could be you are going to go early?

taffycaz - that sounds like one big baby! Not sure how accurate the scans are though, I have heard of them being way out in some cases. I heard also that big babies are easier to birth because there is simply more mass for the uterine muscles to work on, so the pushing is more effective than with a tiny little baby. No idea if that is true or not though.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

AFM, saw mw this morning for a sweep (which was fine, hardly felt anything as I kept my muscles very relaxed). I still haven't had any signs of imminent labour (not since Monday morning anyway), no show, no cramps, nothing. MW, in some surpirse, tells me I am 3cm dilated already!! Cervix nice and soft, 1cm long (not sure what that means though?), and while she has booked me in for an induction next week, she'll be amazed if we make it that far :D Will have a second sweep on Saturday if she's not out by then, but it could literally be any time now. So DH is busy sorting out a final handover at work this afternoon, we've stocked up on drinks and snacks to take to the MLU with us, and are ready to go - which of course means nothing will happen for days and we'll end up getting induced next week :( Bad news is baby is still back-to-back. I was convinced she had moved back round because I could feel a big lump at the front - turns out to be her knees!! MW doesn't seem to think it is a problem though, a couple of good contractions and she'll most likely turn around anyway, so I am trying not to worry about it too much.

Have a good day everyone :)

ooh Caraz, sounds exciting, glad it looks like it's all going to happen soon, and best of luck if it does before we hear from you again! Maybe try spending lots of time in the polar bear position to help her move (on all fours on floor, head resting on arms on pillows on ground and bum in the air = pelvis higher than chest)... Can't wait to read your birth announcement!

Morning girls

Caraz - how was the sweep i have heard it can be painful what exactly do they do?

Well had a little false alarm yesterday, i had quite a few signs, cramp, upset tummy and sore back, lots of what i thought were just braxton hicks, these went on for a few hours during the day and it wasnt until after dinner last night i decided to time how long they lasted and how far apart they were, got quite a shock when i realised they could be early contractions given they lasted about 40 seconds and were about 8 min apart, hubby was on a night out and i thought it would be just my luck that he wasn't home when all this was going on, got quite excited because i had been feeling sick over the last few days and was getting the horrid indegestion back again which is the way my mum went before she had me, but sadly things seem to have settled down :-( and had nothing else since about 9pm last night other than i can't sleep.

How is everyone else?

Take care x

morning

sasha - the sweep was fine for me, I really barely felt it, and definitely nothing painful. I think the trick is to relax the muscles as much as possible (a bit like pelvic floor exercises in reverse!) because that makes it easier for the MW to gain access. Of course it could just be that because I was already softening and dilating that it made it easier anyway, I don't know. Basically the MW pops her fingers up inside (cold gooey gel, yuck!), starting with just one, and has a feel around - she said she could feel the baby's head and it was wriggling around, and she could feel hair on the head too! 3cm dilated I think equates to fitting 3 fingers into the cervix. It sounds worse than it is. I hardly felt the actual sweep around the cervix, it was very gentle. The MW talked through what she was doing all the way through - it only took a minute in all. I had a tiny amount of spotting for a couple of hours afterwards which is normal. I know it will vary for everyone, but I really wouldn't worry about it if you have one booked. Compared to IVF, its a walk in the park!!

Have you had any more contractions?

Still no contractions for me, although I've had a show today for the first time, not sure if it is bloody or not though? A bit pink tinged (sorry TMI!). Not sure if it is because of the sweep yesterday, I had a little spotting yesterday morning/early afternoon, but nothing evening or overnight - this mucous starting showing up this morning. I'm thinking it'll probably be another day or two at the moment, purely because of the lack of contractions. Plus baby is still back-to-back which can slow down early labour, but while I'm dilating without feeling anything I'm not going to complain!!

It looks like I'll be the last of our antenatal group to pop - the lady who is supposed to be a week behind me is in hospital right now after going into labour overnight. Not at all jealous, honest... :riv2:

I'm going to get on with some painting I want to get finished before LO arrives, else it'll never get done! Its a present for a friend (I paint mini figurines for games playing, yes geek alert...:)), and it is taking my mind off the wait. Wish it wasn't so warm and muggy though - hoping for a nice thunder storm when I'm in labour :)

Caraz - how you feeling sounds like things are moving in the right direction, and 3cm dilated already that must be a good feeling hopefully things speed up for you. I'm booked for a sweep day before due date (16th July)

Sadly other that than a wee bit of an upset tummy today everything else has stopped :-( have a mw app tomor so will ask her what she thinks, i'm sure she will just say it's my body getting ready for baby.

Hope all you other ladies are keeping well

oh dear Caraz, every time I see your name on here I think, this must be it! But no.. that little one of yours is teaching you patience eh? It is really hot and muggy, I'm struggling today! Feel too sweaty and even sweaty between things rubbing etc, not something I've ever experienced before, or ever want to again! Gross! It's good to hear the sweep isn't painful, they do them in our surgery as well routinely at 40 weeks... i don't mind it then, but I didn't want anything too invasive.

Sasha, your wishful thinking doesn't seem to be getting you anywhere... Maybe you should book something you really want to do, like a hair appt, or massage or something, and then Murphy's Law, you'll go into labour and not be able to do it ;)

How's everyone else? Has anyone else done the perineal massge thing? I figure as I'm just about 34 weeks now, I should start doing it... Don't want to tear, but also really not fancying the idea of doing that every day either! Yuck. Anyone think it's worth it?

Hope you're all well, am buggered today. Had to conduct an interview last night after work, in London, so only got home at 9pm, so have been running on empty all day, esp since I had another one this morning. They take it out of you! going to be lazy and get take out tonight :)

Have a good evening everyone, and good luck Caraz (I'm going to say that every day til it happens!)

Afternoon girls

Well had my mw app today and i'm only measuring 33 weeks :-( i haven't worried about measuring small yet as the scans have always been fine but now i haven't grown at all which is a little worrying so booked for yet another scan next Fri, that will be my 9th scan. Head hasn't engaged any more than it had, mw said to start doing exercises on the ball but not really sure what i have to do? I don't read baby books or magazines maybe i should start.

Jewels - hope your feeling better today did you get a takeaway? i was hoping for one tonight but hubby has just phoned to say he will be late home from work.

Caraz - i'm hoping something has started happening for you i have everything crossed.

Hi everyone,
Just a quick one as on phone in hospital!
Baby arrived just after midnight this morning, after 6 hour labour. contractions went from none to every 5 minutes within half an hour.
Unfortunately there were complications after birth and we transfered to the scbu, and a specialist team had to come over from another hospital. Worst night of our lives, the doctors initially were very pessimistic, talking about oxygen depravation. After more tests this morning though, she is looking much better and responding normally. they will be closely monitoring her for the next few days, but hopefully she will be absolutey fine.
I am managing to hand express some milk for her, as cant bf for now.
Will try and do an update as and when any more news.
