Taking antibiotics during 34th week

Hi all
33+2
I am probably overreacting-very common for me!! I have just been to doctors on advice from my midwife and was given antibiotics containing penicillian, one to be taken three times a day for a low grade chest infection-she said that she would not want it to get any worse.

I double checked with her about eight times actually that it was safe for the baby, and she said yes as did the pharmasist i just dont like the idea of taking anything that could do any harm.

Any words of wisdom......??? x

Hi Newyearhopes

your thread just caught my eye as I too took antibiotics during pregnancy. I was around 30 weeks. I had a really bad chest just before christmas and it carried on into the New Year. I ended up having two courses of antibx as the first didn't shift it. Whichever antibx I took, I do remember she looked it up as being safe in pregnancy so I'm sure your GP did the same and the fact that your pharmacist has confirmed it's ok, then you've got it on good authority!

Best thing for you and the baby is to get well, especially as you're nearly term and will need all the energy you can possibly have.

Speedy recovery and look after yourself.

xx

Penicillin is safe in pregnancy, the pharmacist is the best person to check as they are the specialists in drug safety. It is more important that you dont end up with complications of your chest infection, if you cant breathe that will be bad for the baby!
