7 week scan post IVF - HELP

Hi, I am new to this site but also desperate for some reassurance.

I had my 7 week scan on Friday and there was the sac and the yolk and then only a very small something.

The doctor said it was too small, looked 6 weeks and was pretty certain it was a miscarriage.

I now have to wait until Friday for another scan.

I have not had any bleeding, I still have slight symptoms that I already had, sore breasts, constipated etc

Dr said there was a very small chance it was just behind schedule but he really didn't think that was likely as you can't get dates wrong with IVF.

Anyone know any similar stories?

I am going crazy with not knowing and waiting

Tali

Hi Tali, welcome to FZ. I'm afraid I don't know much about the stage you're at but I think there have been other girls here who have had worrying scans to start with and then gone on to have healthy pregnancies. I'm sure one of them will pop along soon.

HI Tali and welcome to :FZ:
I am sorry about what you are going through :hugs:
By 6 weeks they should be able to see a heart beat. It sounds like they could see the sac, yolk and probably the embryo, but no heart beat.
Sometimes when you have a m/c it takes a while for your body to realise it and you don't bleed. Once the pregnancy hormones drop then you may experience some bleeding. Sometimes it doesn't happen. It's called a missed miscarriage and you might need an ERPC or some medication to help or you mght just want to wait for it to happen naturally.
The symptoms you have a caused by progesterone (the pessaries/gel you are taking) and you can still have a positive pregnancy test as the hormones are still in your blood and urine.
Unfortunately they don't like to give a diagnosis of miscarriage until you have had 2 scans, that's why you need to wait till Friday. That is to give the embryo a chance as as they have told you it could just be behind. However with IVF the dates are pretty accurate as it's all done in the lab and they know more or less what time the embryo formed.
I am keeping everything crossed for you xfingers

And lo and behold we turn up!

Tali I was in the same boat 5weeks ago. I had my 6week scan and it showed a sac and nothing more, but two days later there was heartbeat. Unfortunately for us it stopped growing at 8weeks. But not all stories end this way, there can be a happy ending, I'm sure others will pop by with different results.

The thing to remember is there is nothing you can do to change things, and difficult though it is you have to sit tight and wait to see what the next scan brings. I was totally driving myself insane too and crying and that certainly couldn't have helped but I suppose that's just a normal reaction and can't be helped.

I hope you have a positive outcome, I will be thinking of you and if you want to pm anywhere along the way please feel free. [zx127]

ps: Maria's answer way better than mine!
