Inverted cervix

Hi ladies,

got a quick question if anyone can help??

I went for my first smear test this morning, and the nurse said ive got an inverted cervix....

she didnt really elaborate on it, other than telling me to sit on my hands while having the smear as it will make it more comfortable because of the cervix thing!!!
so im guessing its nothing major... but just wondered if anyone knew anything about it?

Is it something that can affect TTC or pregnancy??

Getting mixed results about it on google!!!

Thanks in advance :)

xx

hi there

do you mean retroverted cerix? If so then this is very common affecting about 1 in 4 women (including me).

All it means is that the cervix tilts towards your back rather then towards your tummy and will not affect pregnancy at all.

The one thing it may affect though is early scans. In my case my clinic missed seeing my baby at 5 weeks plus 6 and at 6 weeks plus 2. I then went to the early pregnancy unit and they saw the baby at 6 weeks plus 4. The sonographer there made me sit with my bottom on my hands and tilting my tummy upwards - not easy to do!! lol. But there was baby.

Once pregnant the weight of the baby tilts the uterus forward and you will carry on the same as everyone else.

Mr C there are days (and far too many of them) when I feel I know FAR too much about the female reproductive system! :snigger:

No wonder google wasn't giving much feedback rotf
She did say it was common, just wasn't sure if it had anything to do with ttc :)
