One twin has fluid in the brain.....

Just been for a scan at 28 weeks with twin girls. I have been told that there is some fluid on the presenting twins brain. We then waited an hour to see the consultant, who couldn't leave his office to go to the Ultrasound ward to scan me, so going back tomorrow first thing to be scanned by him to see what could be wrong. Very upset, numb, scared etc. I nearly went alone as my partner was working but my Mum - in - law came, which was a good thing, as wasn't expecting any bad news. he said it is something but he brain is so complex that there is alot of ruling out to do and even then nothing can be definate until birth sometimes.
Just ordered a chinese to eat something and then try and get some sleep.
Has anyone else had this happen?

Hi Bonjeux,
Did they say if they got a good view of the twin in your scan yesterday? At around the gestation you are now, it begins to get much harder to get a good picture. I do hope you get a really thorough scan today and that they can get a good look and hopefully be able to put your mind at rest.
Keeping everything crossed for you,
M

Had some devastating news that one of the twins has brain damage. The doctor said it is very bad and so we are trying to come to terms with what that means. We have another scan at Liverpool hospital (ours is Warrington) at the Fetal medicine Unit on Wed for a second opinion and then later a MRI for more details. The other twin is perfectly healthy, I know that is a blessing but so much sadness it is hard to be happy. I am stuck as to how to act, feel etc. I go through waves of crying, sadness to numbness. My DH and I are constantly talking about every angle and researching what it all means. If the damage is too much and she is not going to have a quality of life or even live long then we have the option that i cannot bear to type.
Is there a section on this site or any other sites to help me. As i feel like I need to talk and get information to help me.

Bonjeux I'm so sorry to hear this devastating news. It's completely understandable that you and your DH need to talk this through with people who can offer you practical advice as well as sympathy and a listening ear. I have asked in the Staff Room to see if we have someone who can help point you in the right direction.

Thinking of you. x

I am so so sorry to hear your news. The girls that have posted so far seem to have pointed you in the right direction, I only wish I could help in some way. I am glad the ARC website gave you some information to help with your understanding.

I cannot imagine what you and your DH are going through and feel helpless as I cannot give any advice. Just wanted you to know my thoughts are with you both.
