Mucus plug & show questions

This morning, twice after going to the toilet, I had a funny sort of vaginal discharge. The first time there was a lot, and it was green/yellowy with browny/pink stains (very small), the second time there wasn't as much but again it had the stains. Since then I've now had quite heavy feeling legs and that feeling in my tummy and back as though a period is going to start.

I am 37 + 5 weeks today.

Thanks in advance for any advice that you can give me.

If it's different to how it's ever been the it's likely to be a show, however that doesn't mean that you're in labour and it could still be weeks away so don't panic just yet.

A show is just the plug that seals the cervix, if your cervix is limbering up for labour then it's quite likely that you will see some of that plug coming away. It can be clear jelly, mucusy, pink, yellowy, brown, bloody... there's no real general description.

If you're getting twinges then it's a good sign that things are gearing up so make sure you have everything packed just in case.

Exciting isn't it? :))

Lee-moo

Hun it sounds exactly like what I had, I had that every day for about 10 days before I actually started with contractions. (Not to say you will be the same though) I ended up 3 days over EDD.

But it definately sounds like it hun. I would say relax and rest yourself as you are a couple of weeks early, although I know being 2 weeks early is not a problem these days at all.

Contact your MW and she may check you out hun x

Good luck, sounds like it may have all started to me though x x x

Only if leemoo is leaking fluid ie if her waters have broken. Meconium is greenish brown in the waters and yes, you should go to the hospital if your waters break and they are anything other than a pale neautral colour. However, what she is describing sounds more like a show so no need to worry about that at the moment.

I am getting excited now, just worried that I won't know when it is happening - probably sounds mad, as everyone keeps telling me that I'll be fully aware once I'm in labour.

I had a twinge (contraction) around midnight the day before full blown labour started. Then nothing so thought nothing of it, but it made me stop dead and it was like a short stabbing feeling.

Then 3am the same pain every half hour which came more and more often getting stronger and stronger.

You really will know, I only really knew when I got the same feeling every 30 minutes, that was what confirmed it for me as it was regular.

BUt as I say I did get a show every day for over a week so dont panic, I rang MW to ask about it and she said it seems like I am having a long slow starting labour.

Hi Lee-moo

Yes, it might be! I had a show 12 hours before labour started, but it can be days. My second labour started with what really felt like period pain for about 30 seconds, then when it eased off, I began to wonder. Five minutes later, the "period pain" came back. They were contractions.

You will know when you're really in labour. If you're not sure, then even if it labour, it's such early stages of labour that you don't need to worry about it. Get as much rest and sleep as you can as you never know when you might need the strength!

Keep us posted... if you can! Finally, don't worry about being only 37+5.

Lee-Moo I was 37+5 with DS when labout started, & yes it does sound like a show to me. I had one the day before labour & then on the day as well.

Really important what Limpet said about resting, just wanted to reiterate it! I made the mistake of not resting & struggled through the last part of labour when I went into hospital (was supposed to be at home all the way through)

fingers crossed for you! :baby:

sorry, I've just moved this into 3rd trimester, it was in your child 0-1 years and might have got missed!

Lee-moo, how exciting! Anything over 38 weeks now is classed as 'term' so bubs wouldn't be 'too early' IYKWIM! It certainly sounds like a show to me, but can occur upto 3 weeks before labour starts. But hang in there it sounds like your body is making all the right moves in preperation for your baby! :D

Feel like I don't want to venture out anywhere just in case.

I have a consultant appointment on thursday, and an ante-natal check, so hopefully they might be able to give me some idea of what is happening.

I've Had A Show

Hi everyone

Quite an exciting day today, I have had a SHOW, happydance

Went to the loo at lunch time and there was a jelly like substance at the bottom of the toilet bowl (sorry tmi),
It actually looked like a small jelly fish lol rotf

I was expecting loads of the stuff, the way the midwives mention it, with streaky blood in it, but mine was white with a tiny bit of brown stuff

Does anyone know how long after a show labour usually starts, mmmmmm

I have had a good walk with my doggy, :dog:and tonight i will get bouncing on my gym ball, see if that starts anything off

I havent contacted the midwife about it, do you think i should?????? Maybe Bells can advise me

Sharon

How exciting clap

Sounds as if things are really starting to move, what with your twinges yesterday!!

I don't think you need to tell your midwife as you are 38w.

You bounce that baby out girl, believe me those birthing balls are great in labour I would sware by them. Maybe a curry tonight, or some pineapple!!

Just to warn you though, I had 3 shows with Freya (all quite early 32-33w) and nothing come of it, but as you are ready to go I would say he/she will be in your arms before the weekend was out!!!

Good Luck, keep us posted

but sperm contains a chemical that can start labour.....so nooky is good.

twiddle nips, eat pinapple and bounce on ball........oh and eat a curry

that should do it!

but seriously, it can take a while still, it is nice to know everything is moving in the right direction tho,......oh the memories!!!!

Its not actually 3 shows, its your plug coming away in small bits, it is usually around the size of a 50 pence piece and can occur upto 2 weeks before labour, however if you are still getting these twinges in your cervix I'd hazard a guess and say that you aren't too far off!! :D Get on that ball :D

RE: I've Had A Show

Hi Sharon,

Can't believe you had a show - I had one this morning too. Had an appointment with the midwife anyway at 11.00 and mentioned it to her. My too was like jelly, brown in colour, but was when I wiped myself (sorry everyone for TMI). She said it very much sounded like a show.

I feel fine, having the occassional twinge, and my belly feels very heavy and low.

My god, we may give birth the same day.

You take care, and I will keep you updated with any more news.

God I'm getting excited as well as a bit nervous now.

Sharon and Gilly

If nothing's started yet, then stop bouncing on your ball and eating pineapple and go and get some sleep. You can start all that malarkey again tomorrow. I know it's all very exciting, but believe me (pleeeeease) that you must get some sleep and rest - you can labour better if you're well slept and feeling full of energy. No point going into labour at 10.30pm (like I did) and then not having a wink of sleep all night.

My labour started at 10.30pm after having my show at 7.30am that same day.

Thinking of you both. :D :hugs:

Hi there girls,

I had one the best nights sleep I have had in ages. I slept about 6 1/2 hours before going to the loo!!! I feel great this morning. Going for a walk with the dog shortly. No more news - getting more of a show this morning ........ no pains though yet - really don't know what to expect next.

Just having a nice restful day today.

Will keep you informed of any developments, I've even told DH to make sure he logs on and keeps you all updated. :D
