New early pregnancy - slight twinge?

I found out two days ago that I am pregnant! (First baby and have been trying for two years so absolutely thrilled to bits as I was told I needed IVF as my left tube is blocked!!).
My period is due right about now and i'm having very mild cramping every now and then, panicked me a bit as I keep thinking I am coming on!! Also getting occasionally mild twinging pain in right hand side (my tube which is NOT blocked) - bit like ovulation, which scared me a bit, it's not agonising, just very mild and occasional. I am only 2/3 weeks along. Is this normal? I do have IBS and get alot of wind so not sure if it's due to that too. I just want everything to go smoothly :-)

Hi Siobhan,

Congratulations on your pregnancy, I think that you will get a lot more replies if this post is in the pregnancy section rather than the TTC Naturally section so I will arrange for this to be moved to the 1st Trimester board. where you will get a lot more support.

However, in answer to your question - yes it is very normal to get all sorts of strange aches and pains in early pregnancy, usually by the time you find out your are pg you are actually at least 4 weeks along as the clock starts from the start of your last AF rather than from ovulation. If the pain gets a lot worse then take yourself to A&E but if it's just mild then it's likely to either be IBS being irritated by the increase in progesterone, which slows your gut down, or something stretching as your uterus is already expanding.

Thank you for your reply Grace.

I'm probably just overreacting to be honest. My period is due right about now so that explains the occasional mild cramping in my tummy. The slight twinge I explained is in my right ovary area - like an ovulation pain - but is only every now and the and on a scale of 1 - 10 i'd say it's about a 2.
My friend who is also pregnant, is a nurse and explained that it is perfectly normal and that it's more common on the right side?

Hiya,

You may also notice that about 8 weeks and 12 weeks you will get the same sort of thing. Some people ever get spotting. Your body is getting used to the fact its pg so will still be trying to have AF but it can't because you're pg!!

You'll get more cramps and stretching as the weeks go on and things start to move around in there. Because even though you are only just pg things start changing and moving already!!

Bodies eh?!

Flic! That's what we want to call our baby if it's a girl, love that name :)

Thanks for your reply! I'm just concerned that it's mainly on my right side (where my working tube is) and not really as much on the left.

I have an internal scan tomorrow morning and am dreading it!!!

Hiya!

Flic?? Or Otylia?? Or Scarlett?? My full name is Felicia but gets shortened to Flic a lot!

It could be that you have a cyst on the ovary maybe? I had a cyst but they said that it was one that was helping to support the pregnancy.

Don't dread it, you may see your little bean (it may be too early though  )

I wouldn't worry about the twinge honey. You will get loads of twinges. Its proper scary though and you will worry. But try not to. :hugs:

See, I'm Felicia, not Felicity. Apparently my Mum wanted Felicity but my Dad wasn't keen so they compromised and I ended up Felicia!

That's a beautiful name and really different :)

I've been really tearful all night worrying about my internal scan tomorrow. I really am worlds worst worrier, anyone can tell you that! I just keep picturing them saying something bad.

The twinge has been on my left side as well tonight slightly. It goes from my groin area, and then I get the odd twinge like the side of my tummy half way down, about 4 finger spaces down from my breast? So a bit higher than my tubes? I don't know :(

I had the internal scan done and although they couldn't see the pregnancy due to me being too early (4 weeks), the lining of my uterus has thickened and they did a blood test and my HCG pregnancy hormone levels and progesterone came back really good so it ruled out eptopic.

So i'm alot happier :)

Got to go for a repeat blood test on Wednesday but that is all, oh and a repeat scan next week xxx
