High heart rate?

When I had my scan yesterday, at 10+3, the heart rate was 196bpm. It wasn't til I got home and looked it up that I realised that's rather high - I'm sure I read the normal range was 120-160bpm? They didn't seem at al concerned at the scan, is this something I should be worried about?

Hello,

I've got a bit of knowledge of heart rates at the moment!!

I was told that usually they peak at about 10 weeks then settle to between 110 - 160 in second tri.

They do have accelerations when moving about just like when we do excercies and our heartbeat goes up.

I'm 34 weeks and when baby has an acceleration it goes up to about 175bpm, usually resting hb for mine is 140 but does drop to 119/115 sometimes. Last nights CGT I got to 175 on one acceleration and then went straight down to 120 once baby chilled out again!

I wouldn't worry about it. Don't forget baby is just over 3cm so heart will be tiny and not fully developed yet. The heart will be working hard to pump the blood to all the other developing bits and developing still itself.

Also found this....

The fetal heart rate starts at about 5 week’s gestation, when the baby’s heart first starts to beat. At this time the fetal heart rate is about 80 beats per minute. This is more or less the same as the rate at which the mother’s heart is beating.
* After this for the next 5 weeks, the fetal heart rate continues steadily to increase at the rate of 3.3 heart beats a day. So by the end of the 6th week the heart rate will be 126 beats a minute, by the end of the 7th week it will be 149, by the end of the 8th week it will be 172 beats a minute and by the end of the 9th week it can have reached as high as 195 beats per minute.
* By week 12 the fetal heart rate will be in the region of 120 to 160 beats a minute.

So it could be that your baby was just having a wiggle on!!

Hope this helps honey.

At my 10 week scan heart rate was 180+, think this is normal early on, From 16 weeks HR went down to a normal 140.
Hope this helps a little as I was worried too
