Heavy achy lower tum

Hi all

From time to time I get a achy lower tum, back and hips. Over the last couple of days I have had a few of twinges in my lower tum and my lower tum overall feels quite heavy and achy / tender. I am hoping this is all just stretching related as LO is moving around more these days and I can feel him quite a lot (I am 21 weeks)

But... I cant help but feel a little worried, if the pain was / is bad I will call my mw but just wondered if anyone else feels like this? Sorry DizzyD I just remembered you asked similar Q and I replied??? I am sooooo pregnant!! lol, but these feelings so feel stronger than before?

I got this as well, I think it's as the uterus is getting heavier it's putting a lot of strain on the muscles and ligaments that support it from beneath. The back and hips are probably because your ligaments also get a bit stretchy and your joints move more than they usually do coupled with the extra weight out front it pulls them out of position. If you aren't already try sleeping with a pillow between your legs when you are on your side and one under your bump to support the weight. I found my hips and groin got very very achy until I started doing this.

As long as the heaviness is only confined to your tummy rather than your cervix or vagina then I wouldn't worry unless it gets very bad (in which case phone MW and get advice).

Odds are your baby is growing nicely and your body is adjusting and doing the same! It is very probably just due to the stretching going on.

Any immediate concerns though, ring the hospital/midwife. And maybe just mention it the next time you see your midwife anyway!

hi rosebud,
I get this feeling from time to time also.... My dr. said its just stretching and growing pains and if there is no blood or pain really low in the pelvic area, and you are still feeling baby move then all should be fine!

I second what Grace and Dizzyduck said... the pillow also helped me. I'm 27 weeks. I had these pains from around 18- 23 weeks and they have now started again. I'm seeing the MW on Thrs but think it's just strecthing again. x
