Mattresses and baby monitors

Hi
Just wondered what mattress people have bought for there little ones? I’m looking at mothercare and am struggling to find the right one! I need to get one for a cot bed and one for a normal size cot.
I am also looking at the anglecare monitor with the sensor that checks for breathing, but it doesn’t say on instructions the max thickness that the breathing movements can be detected, so I’m unsure of the thickness of the mattress and if to get foam or sprung.
Any thoughts/experiences or ideas much appreciated. Xx
