So glad there is such lovely scan news on here. I'm back from my hols. Still have a runny tummy, it eased up but then I've had another couple of bad days. They have moved my scan to Monday (9wks) and I am terrified. I have never got to 9 wks and what with the tummy ache I haven't been able to tell if I'm nauseous or not in the mornings. I have been sleeping alot though. I am just terrified that Monday will be a bad scan, I can't think of anything else. My DH is being great putting up with me x

Good luck for tomorrow Ros - I'll be thinking of you. What is so exciting for some is just so terrifying for us. Really hope you get the good news that you so deserve.
Rosebud - you have your 12 week scan this week I think - when is it? Good luck to you too - it will be another hurdle jumped and hopefully will make you feel a bit less scared.

thanks ladies, two little babies with heartbeats are still there, measuring ok for 9wks and starting to wriggle. Phew. At least there is relief for today, I have been so miserable this last week waiting for this. So I am officially the furthest I have ever been.... I hope it continues...

Good luck Rosebud x

Fantastic news Ros! I am so so pleased for you - it is such a good feeling when you make it past the time when it went wrong before, isn't it? Well done - and wriggling too, great sign!
Good luck for Weds Rosebud, try to keep occupied to make the time go faster. Hopefully all will be well and you can breathe a big sigh of relief (until the next scan of course....!).

Hey Girls
Sorry its taken me so long to get back on and post!!
Amoona, Ros and Suzy its such great news to check in and see that your scans have gone well....am really delighted!! DizzyD thanks so much for your message as well...this place has given me so much support and comfort over the past year!!

My scan went really well, it was so amazing to see our little baby wriggling about and even better to see that everything was in working order, the girl who did the scan was lovely and is 7mths pregnant with her first after 6 months of Clomid!! we were able to laugh at the mad dreams I had been having and she even printed out a pic of the babies feet so I could see that there were no extra toes lol!!!
She did tell me that my placenta is at the front?? and this is like having a cushion between me and the baby so it would take longer to feel kicks and sometimes make it more difficult to hear the heart beat, but not to worry...do any of you know anything about this?? I see my doc on the 18th so I can ask him then!!!

Have started pregnancy yoga...never thought I would get to go!!!

Hope you are all good
Take care

your scan (and sonographer!) sounds wonderful elvis - so pleased that all is well :D

My placenta is anterior (at the front) as well and I have been told the same about baby's kicks etc. Over the last week I ahve actually felt it (well, think I have :snigger:) a few times though - all depends what position it is in I guess.
There is no issue with having an anterior placenta development wise but it can make the birth harder. I believe that, in the main, babies tend to face the placenta meaning that it is more likely for the baby to be in a 'back to back' position for labour with an anterior placenta....which can mean more pain!!!
However, that's a long way off and all supposition as to what the baby will actually be up to nearer the time!

Hey ladies, I'm worried something is desperately wrong as I have no tummy other than the jelly tummy I started this cycle with, and no symptoms now. I am supposed to be 10 weeks today with twins but feel that they must have gone. Lots of the ladies on the first tri page are being sick all the time or have baby bumps at 9-10 weeks and I have none of that. I should stop looking there. I have the agony of my first ante natal on Thursday but they won't scan me then so it will be 2 weeks until I see if they are still there or not. I will be even more miserable by then.
Good luck at your appointments Suzy and Dizzy x

hey ros, sorry that you are worried. If it helps I had no symptoms until i was about 11 weeks and even then they came and went. Also no tummy at all until 16 weeks! Im sure all is ok, but could you possibly go for a private scan just to put your mind at rest? I can understand your anxiety but try and have faith and once you get to 12 weeks the worrying will ease off x x

Oh Ros, please ignore the first tri chat posts.
You know that if you spoke to a lot of non-infertility people that you would get very different stories. I certainly didn't have a bump by 10 weeks and, even now at almost 20 most people can't see it.
Sickness comes and goes for so many people at different times but, again, for the majority, the peak weeks are 8 or 9 weeks and you are past this.

there really is nothing to suggest that the babies aren't doing well sweetheart. You haven't passed any blood since you saw last how well they were and you are not in any abdominal pain. If you are really desperately worrying then book yourself a private scan - don't go through the agony of being miserable when there is no need. As I said recently in one of the other threads - there is no price on sanity!

thanks ladies, I was hoping I might persuade them to use a dopler at my first antenatal this week but I doubt they will at this stage. The scan is two weeks tomorrow. I know you've all been through this stage of not knowing to get excited or not, I guess I'll have to be patient. As I've had scans at 6,7, & 9 weeks I am worried a private one this week/ next week would be a bit much. Is there such a thing as having too many scans and damaging the babies?

Ros, so sorry to hear your so worried hon, I really do think everyone is so different you cant try and compare. I was really worried at 10 weeks and ended up having a private scan which cost £100 but to me it was so worth it to put my mind at rest!

As the girls say there is nothing to say everything is not ok, but if it will make you feel better have a private scan xx

no evidence to suggest that there are too many scans and, I think that dizzyd had weekly ones for a while ?(

They probably won't use the doppler - mine wouldn't at the 12 week appt as she said they can't always find the HB at that stage and she doesn't want to distress people unnecessarily. HOwever, different areas do different things.

Aww Ros I am so sorry you're having such a worrying time of it. :cuddle

About bumps, although I'm obviously not pg with twins there is no way you could tell I was pg at 18 weeks let alone 10. I know it's hard not to compare yourself with everyone else, just because you're not going through the same things as some people doesn't mean there is something wrong.

As for the sickness, that comes and goes, not that it makes it any easier on you even when you do know that. I had days where I felt completely normal and googled all I could to find things to make me feel better, apparently a lot of peoples symptoms disappear and they still go on to have happy healthy babies.

I really doubt your MW will use a doppler on you this early, it can be very difficult to find the HB even later in pg so they tend not to try to avoid any unnecessary worry. I think a scan would be a good idea, in fact, if you speak to your MW and tell them all you've been through they may even be able to sort something out for you. My MW was very clear with me that she didn't want me to worry and if I did get into a state, phone her, that in it's self was reassuring enough for me knowing I could get checked out if need be.

Thinking of you hun.

thanks ladies, I hope I get a nice midwife, who understands. I've never seen a midwife before whilst pregnant, although when I miscarried last time two lovely m/w's helped me through it.

Oh ros I am sorry that you are so worried and I know how you feel!!! I am thinking about getting a private scan but not sure.

Had my first app with the midwife and it went well apart from the taking blood thing!! 5 attempts and no blood so DH said that he would do it (he is a nurse!) and he got a vein. it was 4 viles or whatever they filled but god my arms are not so sore and I am sure will be black and blue in the morning!!! At least they said they don't need blood until 16 weeks again.

She just asked a million questions etc and that was really about it. I did et upset when she asked if this was my first pregnancy and as I was telling her no I had a miscarrige the tears started to flow!!!!

I should get a letter in the post over the next 3 weeks with an appointment for my 12 week dating scan and that is when I will see them next!!

Hurry up the next 3 weeks!!!!

Hi Ros - sorry you are feeling so worried - I know exactly where you are coming from. I should be about 14 weeks now and I just look slightly fat around the belly but only sometimes and definitely not through clothes. I've been worried too but listen to the other ladies - often there is no noticeable bump until much later on.
I did have weekly scans for about 3 or 4 weeks and it really helped me. i honestly don't think i could have got through those weeks, especially around the time I had m/ced before, without them. Scans are harmless for the babies and as jen says, if it will help you feel better it will be worth it. I didn't have to pay this time because it was through the m/c woman, so do ask your midwife, but when I had private ones it was about £75 and worth every penny. I'd go for it just for your own peace of mind.
Suzy - sorry you had such a hard time with the bloods! But it must be great to have a DH who is a nurse and can look after you properly!

Hey Girls
Ros - I am so sorry to see how you have been feeling and as the other girls say, everyones pregnancy is different, I have only started getting bump as well and Im 23 weeks, so there was def nothing there but my own jelly belly at 10 weeks!! when I was really stressed recently about my big scan a friend of mine said "take it that everything is good until you are told otherwise", I know it was easy for her to say but I really tried to remember that when I felt really stressed!! As for too many scans, I have had 7 so far (just lucky with my doc) and all have been reassuring and doc said doesnt do anything to baby!! It also might be too early to listen with doppler as my GP said his usually didnt pic anything up until 16 weeks, but the hospital might have more advanced ones...lets know how you get on

Suzy, glad that you had a great hol and that you have had your booking appt....hope the next few weeks fly in for you....

Hey to everyone else...hope you are all keeping well..
Take care

Hi everyone,

Hoping I can join you guys, I am nearly 8 weeks pregnant and very stressed. Last year I had a miscarriage and since then I have struggled to get pregnant again. Worried the same thing is going to happen again. Not had anything to suggest otherwise really but with every twinge I panic and am on and off the loo hundreds of times just to check. Midwife said i couldn't have an early scan unless I had bleeding or pain. Problem is what pain is pain? I suffer from irratable bowel syndrome so get twinges and pains regularly in my stomache.

Considering a private scan but don't want one too early in case they say go away and come back in two weeks like they can do for an early scan. Don't think I could handle that. Also wonder whether all the scan would do is ease my stress for one day and then I would stress again. Not sure what to do and just wanted to unload really.

Thanks ladies for being so lovely to me. I did end up getting a scan last night and everything was fine with both babies.

Clairey, I completely understand how you feel hun, I am feeling like the world's worst pregnant person. If a scan would make you feel better then I say go for it. You will definitely be able to see what is going on in there at 8 weeks so don't worry about that. Whenever I get a scan (I have had 5 now) it does make me more relaxed for a few days, then I start to worry again but I'm grateful for those few days peace of mind. Let us know how you get on x

Hi Clairey and welcome to our little support thread

Please don't panic darling. It is perfectly natural when you have had a loss, but I always remind people that the chances of this pregnancy being successful are hardly affected by one previous loss. I know that, psychologically, it can be hard for statistics to make any impact on how you feel but I think it is important to keep in mind that you have a much greater chance of being a mum in 8 months or so time than not.

It is hard to distinguish all of those twinges and pain but unless you have severe pain or any bleeding then I would try not to analyse or dwell on any feelings you get down there. As you know, it is perfectly normal to get some cramps and you will get them throughout your pregnancy.

only you know if a scan would reassure you or not. Personally I'd always rather know what is going on in there than sit and fret. My suggestion, if you can wait this long, would be to have one at around 8 weeks. If there is a heartbeat and everything is the right size at 8 weeks then the chances of the pregnancy being successful are something like 96% - pretty good odds, eh?

The biggest piece of advice I could give you is to try and find a rational way to deal with your worries and concerns. You won;t be able to stop yourself from worrying all of the time, but finding coping strategies to at least limit the amount of time you spend worrying are very valuable - otherwise it will be a very long 8 months. Do have a read at some of the posts earlier on in this thread as other people have shared how they cope with being pregnant after one or more miscarriages.

Great news Ros! So pleased for you.
Welcome Clairey - your worries are perfectly normal after having a loss - as the others say, have a scan if you are 8 weeks or more. they will be able to see heartbeat and check if all is OK.It may only reassure you for a while but still very much worth it!
All this talk of scans - I am off on hols for a week on saturday and am due my next appt on 26 Aug. I was OK about it but have had a sudden panic over last few days and am wondering if I should get scanned before I go? Half of me thinks just wait til 26th and enjoy the holiday, but a little (very persistant!) voice in my head keeps saying 'what if...?' I should be at 14 weeks and 2 days now and my last scan was 12 weeks 3 days. I have the whole no bump, coming and going symptoms thing going on which isn't helping! What would you do? I am scared of having the scan in case something is wrong but I'd rather find out here than in another country! I haven't had any bleeding or have any real reason to think something is wrong except PARANOIA!!!
Help! I think I'm losing my marbles!

dizzyd - stay calm!!!

All of a sudden you reach the second trimester and you are kind of left in no man's land. I think the bottom line is that you have to get used to not having scans all the time and find other ways of coping with your anxieties - chances of something going wrong are so small now. Of course, that is just my opinion and if you want a scan that is your prerogative
Would hearing the baby's HB through a doppler help you? Maybe give your MW a call, and explain you worry about going away to see if she will do that.
You could always buy a doppler to use at home as well. I didn;t want one - I find that not thinking about the baby and just carrying on with life is how I cope best. However, you may be the sort of person who would benefit from being able to use it whenever you feel anxious.

Thanks jen! You are right - it is a bit like being cast adrift now and I guess I'd better get used to it or I'll be a nervous wreck! When I'm at work it's better as it is so full on you don't have time to think, but during the holidays I just can't stop googling 'miscarriage at 14 weeks' and scaring myself silly. Absolutely ridiculous and really destructive I know! I'm so trying not to do it.
I think I'll leave the scan if I can - its only 2 weeks to wait. I'm not sure about the doppler, maybe later on. I have only had one m/w appt and the next one isn't til November, which seems a long way off (I'd be over 6 months then). I don't even know who my midwife will be. I'm due to see m/c woman on 28 Aug so perhaps I'll talk to her about it then.
Thanks - I am going to stay off google now and try to be a bit more rational.

I know, you don;t get to see a MW very often - do you? My last one was 16 weeks and my next time is 28 weeks.
Stay away from google....what are you going to learn from it now? You know it is possible to miscarry at 14 weeks, but you also know it isn;t very common. and, most important of all, no wbesite is going to be able to tell you what is happening in your pregnancy, no matter how much you search.

Use this holiday as an opportunity to prove you can cope without regular scans. Remember that it isn;t the scans that are sustaining your pregnancy - it is your body and your precious little baby that are doing all of the work. Jumping out of the plane and parchuting solo isn;t so scary once you get used to it xxx

Great new Ros, so happy for you honey. DizzyD I know how you feel its so hard, I would have a scan every week if I could! lol. As per the doppler I am a bit afraid of these as it can be a bit difficult to find the heartbeat and I would just panic and become obsessed listening all the time so I would not bother with one personally.

Have a great hols and relax x
