MAT LEAVE

OMG - can't believe I'm actually stopping work tomorrow [zx077] - one more sleep and it will all be over until May 2007 -- whoppeee - and I even get to leave early tomorrow -- I normally stop at 2.30pm but have an antenatal tomorrow and have to leave at 1.45pm.

Don't think DH is too happy with me at the moment as I'm sitting singing "one more sleep to go"!!!!!

Saz - enjoy!

I haven't worked since 25 weeks (made redundant & then Co went bump!) & I'm loving not working! Some of my NCT class ladies are working up to 36 weeks which was my original plan but I'm soooo pleased it was taken out of my hands!

What is the latest one can work till--cos I was planning to work right to a week before the baby, if my body allows me to.

That way, I will just take all my holiday, before I start to get paid for % for maternity leave which is my salary at 75% for 8 weeks, the statutory MP.

But I intend to be off for a year before going back to work. I can't wait to leave the bloody job --but still a long way to go (4 months 3 weeks).
Seems like a life time

QS I think you can work up to the week the baby is due but you MUST take 2 weeks leave after the baby is born as a minimum.

Try checking the government websites for the exact rules, I'll see if I can find the link for you!

QS - as far as I know you can work right up to your expected week of confinement but if you intend to take your holidays and then your maternity leave the two benefits can't run concurrently. Your mat pay automatically starts on your expected week of confinement so you'd have to use all your hols up before then.

Thats what I've been led to believe anyway.

10 working days to go for me and counting :D

Thanks for that info. At my work place, you can take your holiday to give you a bit of time, before starting maternity leave.

So I will give myself about 4th of august to leave work ( holiday ) and start maternity leave on the 21st of August.

That is all hoping that my body allows it, if not then it might be earlier. But I just don't want to be at home, if not it will drive me crazy.

Saz,

it feels incredible - seems even more unbelievable that I'm off work for so long and that I'm actually having another baby - more so than when I got my BFP. I just can't believe that I'm not going back to work until next May and also that I'm not going to have a child anymore but children - me - not anyone else - me - unbelievable!!!!

Hope today and tomorrow whizz by - what are you going to do on Friday ? - have lunch with a friend? I'm having lunch with a friend today and going baby shopping tomorrow!!!

At least you guys will get to have long lies - I still have to get up at the same time as I need to get Callum ready for school and still have to leave the house at 8.50am - only difference being I get to come home after I've dropped him off rather than going into work!!! still I get to be a lady of leisure for the next 7 1/2 weeks and go for lots of girly lunches!!!

Bloody, bloody, bloody! I had my midwife appt this afternoon so I thought rather than trek into work only to leave at midday I'd book the morning off too. so OBVIOUSLY in my absence it all goes tits up.

one of the projects i coordinate uses some digital recording equipment which I lock away in the secure stores. somehow between last week and this week it has gone walkies. I am in so much trouble. I locked the bloody things up, what more am i supposed to do, place a 24 hour guard?! why do these things always come to a head when you are not around to sort them out yourself so they seem 10 times worse!!!

I'm really not looking forward to going babck to work tomorrow now ;(

Lorraine - I am due 10th June, got 10 weeks yet but am so glad I am off work now as I have not been feeling too well last few days. My back has caused me problems for months and work have been awful about it. My office is tiny adn very very hot, no effort has been made at all to help or support me. I had been getting so upset about things and DH said its not good for me and baby so we decided I would leave a month sooner than originally was going to.

I think it wont hit me either until a week or twos time, I always get that feeling at the weekend to make the most of it and dread going back to work on Monday, but I then remembered today that I dont go back on monday. Its strange and I am so happy.

I went to Glasgow Pram centre today to collect my pram, mattress, car seat and get a couple of other bits. Am so excited and happy, just wish I was feeling a bit better. Looking forward to my lay ins for a few weeks at least.

How is everyone else getting on???

Enjoy it ladies, I seem to of gone from being a virtual lady of leisure to working my backside off so I can leave my clients up to date, doesn't help that the financial year end is a month before my EDD!

I am on track and have really enjoyed doing something with my days other than painting and watching the Jeremy Kyle show!

I predict I will be finished by the end of April and I then relaxation til the little one arrives, still can't believe I am going to be a mummy soon xx

Yes must be hard with another child. I think i have done the right thing for me to leave work now at 30 weeks. More so cos I was unhappy at work and not getting any support. If I was at my old job back home may have been different.

But I have lots to organise as DH is off to Iraq and need to arrange other bits and bobs, wanna leave my head free for when baby is here.

Too right! I had no idea how much harder it would be. I finished work last week at 35 weeks and have a 2-year old. Absolutely exhausting - far far harder than first time around! I agree - aim for earlier than that with no. 2!! I haven't even started on the nursery yet, I'm 36 weeks, I was early with no. 1 and all I can think about is finding the odd moment in the day to have a nap rather than do anything useful. The baby will be sleeping in a drawer or cardboard box, I think.
