I like

For a boy - Derren, Ben or Adam
For a girl - Lauren, Amelia or Isabella.

Unfortunatley, some problems
DH hates Derren as says that people would get it wrong and he would be called Darren. I like it 'cos it sounds like Darren which was my brother name. Ben - loads of family menbers have Bens but then we are not exactly close. DH absolutley and positivley hates Amelia or Isabella. He says that they are fussy and snobby. I mean, what is wrong with a name with a little bit of class?

oh, and not pg. That is the main problem I s'pose X( :D

I know its early days but:

For a boy we like Kian

For a girl we like Freya- Which means goddess of love and fertility

I have a little boy aged 3 called Connor (much wanted one) which if I have a girl this time will sum the last five years of TTC up!

Thats OK but calling children after a parent makes life very complicated, their medical records will get mixed up!

My aunty named my cousin the same name as my sister. I don't think my Mum has ever got over it.

I've got a bit of a '1st come 1st served' attitude to names I think that if family member or close friend gets there 1st with my name then that is bad luck for me really. Having said that, I really hope noone does!!

Right then, here goes. I made the fatal fatal mistake of letting on at work about one of my names:

Betty

It would be after DH's Gran.

I thought it was a sweet name, verging on the cool, but it caused 3/4 people to errupt into belly laughter. One person even came back and said that all they'd ever think about was Frank Spencer!!

Can I have some honest opinions. I can't come and get you if I don't like what you say, so be honest please!

I think it's a lovely thought to name your kids after people. Lavina is named after one of DHs great great great (etc) grand parents. Surprisingly we both like the name as it's usual. My mum straightaway said 'all they will call her will be Lav'.

I just love Lewis. Will have middle name after my DH is it's a boy, middle name after mine if it's a girl

i like it, it has a cool feel like Betty Paige, very fifties. I like Elsie though and most people I've mentioned that to think its a grannies name - names go in circles though don't they and I think they is a rise in simple names. Betty is lovely.

I think Betty is lovely Andy. Its unusual enough to be individual but its not wierd. You could name her Elizabeth and call her Betty for short. But at the end of the day, she will be you little girl and you shouldn't give her a name thats pleases others and not you and DH. We have a similar problem as we want Walter for a middle name if we have a son. It was DHs grandads name, but we think its quite cool as well. People have turned their noses up at it but we are going to use it anyway.

I love the name Shaye Leoni, I had also picked out Leoni early on, but again Dp bashed it on the head!

Andypink, I was going to say what MrsJ said, call baby Elizabeth and shorten it! I think all the old names are coming back in!

I love all your name choices Andy. Both girl and boy ones. My cousin aged 15 and a half is a Maisie. Suits her v.well and Amelie's nice - unusual but pretty. The boys names sound great. I like Spike - after all no-one slated Spike Milligan - unless of course someone is gonna to tell me that Spike wasn't his real name!

Andypink

I think that if you like the name and it goes with the surname and it suits the baby then there is nothing wrong with the name.

I don't think its a name I would use but then you may not have chosen Chloe if you had a girl. It really is a personal thing and what you like and if it suits baby and the surname then why not.

Dont worry about what others think, one other thing to think about is when the child is at school can the name be shortened to a name you dont like like Kaitlyn and Kate or could the other kids make a nick name from it.

They are the things that helped us choose our names anyway x

I love Maisie by the way but our surname is Martin and it would not go.
