7 week scan 10th of Oct!

Hi,

Just wonderign if there is anyone who is ruffly at the same date as me?

The 7 week scan is this done internal or is it a ultrasound?

I am a wee bit anxious the now I think it's just the waiting I'm still trying to rest as much as possible and eat healthy I have also phoned for a nurse appointment this afternoon to see if they can check my HCG levels do you think they can do this ?(

Thanks in advance for any reply's

Hi Kassi

My 7 week scan was internal. Your clinic may not want to do HcG levels - some won't unless there is a problem such as bleeding, but its worth asking. You will need them done twice though, 48 hours apart to check that they are rising. One result isn't really much use on its own.

Hope that helps.

RE: 7 week scan 10th of Oct!

the 7 week scan could be either.
They *can* check your HCG levels but they don't always do this. Ideally they would do two blood tests, a few days apart, to make sure the HCG is rising as expected.

I know this is incredibly difficult but do try to relax hun. Have you got any annoying little jobs you could get stuck into -tidying drawers, decluttering your wardrobe, sorting out your address book and the like? Keeping as busy as you can (without over-exertion of course!) really will help the time to pass more quickly.

hope the wait goes as quickly as possible

Hi Kassi, this is my first post on the 'other side', other than visiting other people.

You are a week ahead of me. I am 4wk+1 so still very early days but I've been booked in for a scan on 8th Oct. I'm concerned it's a bit early and there won't be much to see at 6wk+1 but it will hopefully put my mind at rest. I know how you feel what with worrying about everything.

With regards to the bloods - I've had a little light bleeding so have persuaded my clinic to do them for me but if you have had no bleeding then I'm sure you're fine.

Will be watching how you get on x

I had an external scan at 5+6 and saw HB
As I had a second sac that they needed to check out they then did an internal.
I think it all depends on the sonographer.

All you can do now is just wait. It is pretty much the same as the 2WW and it is so slow! After you have had the 6-7 week scan then there is the worry and the wait for the 12 week scan and then there is the worry and the wait for the next thing. This is sure to continue up until you are retired and you son/daughter(s) are working for themselves :D

I had an external scan at 5+3 and saw the gestation sac and yolk sac but nothing else, had a 7 week scan on monday, again abdominally and saw baby and the heartbeat. Think it is unlikely that the nurse will take blood for Hcg without any bleeding, it is not as important or accurate as seeing on scan anyway, its not too much longer to wait now (although i know it feels like forever)
Good luck

Hi Frankie
Yes you should be able to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks! Some private clinics use an internal doppler to hear the hb too so you may get to hear it that early, i got to hear my baby's hb at 7 weeks

7 week scan result and a very werid 1!!!

Hi,

Had my 7 week scan last Fri and I must admit it was a stressful one!!! And need to know if anyone knows or knows someone who has experianced the below??

So my scan 1st of all she couldn't find anything I was lying praying everything would be fine then she thought she seen the heart beat but said I would have to get an internal scan done so I had to empty my bladder so anyway when I returned she FINALLY confirmed that I had a baby there!! But that wasn't all I have alot of blood in my uterus it's too the left and lying under the baby she said thats why she found it hard to find the baby. I couldn't believe it I thought to myself jes can someone not give us a break!! So anyway I have to go back again in the next two weeks to check everything is o.k thats why I had the brownish mark last sun and since the internal I have a bit of spotting since. I had a hellish weekend I felt like crying all weekend and I was so worried that something was going to happen I was a nightmare to be around and nasty to DH even though I knew he was worried

But on a lighter note I haven't had any spotting since Sun I seen my babies heart beat and got two lovely scan pictures for me to keep also I went to my gp yesterday to take about the blood and he said if it was really bad I wouldn't have been aloud out and I have to keep calm.

Jes that was a long e-mail sorry x but does anyone know if they could shead some light

Hey Kassi, first of all congratulations on your baby being there safe and well! Such a relief for you I'm sure. I also had a bit of a bleed at about 5-6 weeks. When they scanned me at 7 weeks they found the bleed site and said I may have a further bleed of reddish brown blood, and that this was old blood and not to worry. Easier said than done of course.

Having an implantation bleed is very common in the early weeks. Nobody really knows how common it is cos unless you have an early scan it sometimes isn't picked up.

You may find that you have a bit of loss again, but it will be the old blood coming out. If you do get bright red bleeding with pain, always seek help, but fingers crossed this will go away on it's own and you will have a trouble free pregnancy. It's good that they are following you up in a couple of weeks, so take it easy til then if you can. Get your feet up and rest!

As Mrs Smiff says, sometimes an implantation bleed can occur around the time of conception, the sonographer will always check the implantation site to see if the bleed stems from where the placenta joins the wall of your uterus and from this they can assess if this is a threatened miscarriage or not. As Mrs Smiff rightly says though if there is any fresh bleeding or you notice any cramping you must get this checked over, I am sure they will happily bring your scan forward if you get any more worries.

I'm sorry you are having these scary times, but fingers crossed this is a bump in the road, and wishing you a happy healthy 9 months

Hiya

Good news that they saw your baby, and HB on the scan.

At the same time, I imagine you have a few mixed emotions/feelings right now.

Here is a link with a bit of info about bleeding during pregnancy:

BLEEDING IN PREGNANCY

It's good they are following you up, and keeping a close eye on you. If you have any symptoms you are worried about, in the meantime, contact your GP/clinic, and hopefully they will be able to see you.

12 week scan

Hi,
Just wanna get some reasurrance...just had a 12 week scan after being told we were expecting twins at 7 weeks. After todays scan found out theres only 1 baby there and a small sac above and left where 2nd baby would have been. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal for these sacs to absorb or is there any danger? Nurse said 2nd embryo would have stopped at first scan time and therefore has been there 5 weeks shrinking.
Thanks

RE: 12 week scan

Hiya,

First of all im so sorry for your loss...and just to tell you that we have exactly the same thing happen to us,i went for a scan after being told it was twins and one of the babies had died at 7w3d,we had a scan yesterday and the sac is also still there and may take a few more weeks to completely dissolve we have been told...they say it should not make a difference to our healthy baby and is quite common, your body will just absorb the baby...

It is very hard as your sad for the lost one but happy for your healthy baby and we are now trying to focus on the positive that we have one healthy baby,if you want to pm me about anything feel free as we are in the same boat...good luck x x x

1st up Congrats on the BFP

I'm afraid i don't know what the stats are re 7 week scans, but i do know how you feel. I have my 7 week scan a week friday and it feels like forever away. I think we just have to try and chill, take it easy and try very hard not to go insane :loony:

No one tells you that after going through the 2WW and getting your much wanted BFP that you then have to go through the 3WW till the 1st scan, then the 5WW to the 2nd scan, and on and on and on.... :snigger:

Hope you can hang in there and not to get too stressed out starsmile

Best of luck with scans ladies, I have one tomorrow at 8 weeks - there was a little one in there two weeks ago but I'm so scared it won't be there tomorrow.
I don't know when this all gets any easier? maybe once we all have big bumps and can feel the babies in there - but then we'll be worrying about the birth :snigger:

Heya, Congrats! I think that if there was no heartbeat this would be referred to as a 'missed miscarriage' (not 100% sure on that though) which is where the body doesn't miscarry the baby for a few weeks after development has stopped but the odds of that happening are 1/100 so 99% says you'll be absolutely fine! I'm always trawling the net for stats because i'm really paranoid also, but I think we just have to have faith and realise that the odds are definately in our favour!

Unfortunately for me i have to wait for the 12 week mark before i have any sort of scan or hear the heartbeat which is really testing my faith! I wish they'd just scan me already!

Just try and relax. I've actually stopped googling everything now because it just gets me worked up. I think we tend to focus on the few negative stories instead of all the positive ones.

have faith ! xx

I have a real good feeling bout this one (or two?)! I think you'll be just fine. I'm counting down till 12 weeks, as I'm sure you are! I think it's natural to worry - or so people keep telling me! But i can imagine your probably a little more on edge but you know the odds are most definately on your side. Im sure you'll have some great news tomorrow which will help a little

Ros - im way jealous your on your second scan ! good luck and let me know how you get on tomorrow! xx

will do, sorry you have to wait so long for yours hun. It will all be worth it when you see it wriggling around on screen - at 12 weeks they look like real babies (just alot smaller :snigger:). You could always pay for a private scan if you want to see it sooner than 12 weeks? I think they are about £100.

I have everything crossed for you x

party queen - I was in exactly the same boat - I couldn't relax until my scan. Try to relax as much as possible, getting in a tizz won't help!

I have considered going private Ros, but I'm such a worry wart that I know it will only passify we for a week, if that. Then i'll be back to worrying. I think i'm going to worry for the first 12 weeks no matter what. I have about 3 and 1/2 weeks until my scan so am counting down.

Im starting to get cramps 2 but my boss told me to expect it when i reached 8 weeks as it freaked her out when she got them so i'm not too concerned. So long as they are not really painful. Mine just a feel a little uncomfortable but i had them for the first couple of weeks also.

You are right, each scan only takes the worry away for a week after.
I want to get booked in with my hospital so I know when my booking in and 12 wk scan is - hopefully I will be able to do that after tomorrow. The IVF clinic have to throw me out sometime! :snigger:

I had the 8 wk aches yesterday evening and in the night, so I've had to tell myself it's because I'm at wks rather than it being a bad thing. They weren't painful or anything.

roll on 3.5 wks  x

early scan question

What do i have to do to get a seven week scan? my df is a twin and am wondering if that is reason enough to get an early scan, or if they will make me wait untill twelve weeks? the last doctor i saw was a waste of taxpayers money, to be polite, and just asked me how my boobs were and said he will refer to the midwife but she doesn't pick up my details for a week and then has to decide when to ring me for booking appointment so wondering what to do - should i ask the surgery for the midwifes number and chase her or should i just sit tight? the suspense is doing my head in, can't bear the thought of all that waiting!!

Hi Chickapea

I think you will have to go private if you want an early scan - most of the ladies who have a 7 week scan have had fertility treatment so its part of the package.

Worth a try though xx

Hi

I got my scan at 7 weeks through nagging the midwife and eventual referral to the EPU to get my HCG levels checked due to having a previous loss. They scanned me as part of the booking in process though so didn't get another NHS scan til 20 weeks (although booked a private scan at 13 weeks).

I think if you have a natural pregnancy, they don't seem to take it very seriously until you have seen midwife, normally around 8/9 weeks.

Good luck
2 gorgeous girls and 1 on the way

7 week scans are not standard hun. It is a question of cost to the NHS really. With resources scarce it is understandable that early scans at the EPU are only for ladies who have good reason to need one - bleeding or history of recurrent miscarriage. Your doctor or midwife is unlikely to send you for an early scan if you have not had a previous loss and all is progressing as normal.
As Rae says, those who have had treatment get it as part of their package. As she also says, you can pay for a private scan. I have had one of these in the past - it cost me £65 for a scan at 8 weeks.
