Hi again,

Well I called the EPU this morning and they were so fantastic and sympathetic and offered me a scan before I even had to ask for one!

I remember going there to see them, in floods of tears, fearing the worst when I first had bleeding with baby #2 and they somehow were able to know exactly what to do and say to calm me down! I bled on a few seperate occassions in the first 12 weeks that time but the way the staff at the EPU handled everything just made things so much less stressful! Not, touch wood, had any bleeding this time, but neither am I having any obvious symptoms to convince me all is as it should be. I definately had a bloated tummy at this early stage with both successful pregs but no bloating whatsoever this time....I am eating less chocolate biscuits this time mind you, as my husband pointed out!

So, provided nothing happens in the mean time, I am going to be having a scan next Friday lunchtime, when I will be 8 weeks and 2 days!

Thanks for all the advice, I am so glad I called the EPU!

That is fantastic Philippa...you must be so relieved/excited! How much could you see on your scan?

I had quite an early scan with baby #2....at 6 weeks...did see a little ball of something that fluttered which I was informed was my baby! Still got the piece of paper they gave me somewhere which says...today your scan showed your baby measures 5.5 mm which is equivalent to 5 weeks 5days! Amazing to be able to see such a tiny thing!

Thank you all.

I just wish it was this Friday....but hey, I know that it is just one more week of waiting and wondering, so I can do that! Think I would just drive myself crazy if I waited until 12 week scan!

I have my booking apt with my GP next Tues so I will have to sheepishly tell him I went behind his back and asked for an early scan!

Thanks again.x

oh, you're GP will be fine, if not it's just an ego problem on his part.
Ultimately I think we have to take control of our own mental and physical health and if that means upsetting a few GPs along the way, well, big raspberries to them !!

Mayo, first of all congratulations hun! And secondly, well done for getting a scan booked. I can totally empathize with your need to know that everything is ok as far as they can see. It really annoys me how some GP's just brush off worries like this. It is very important for your mental well-being to know that everything is looking ok. Great that you got in for a scan next week. I know it is another week or so of worrying, but hey, by next week they will be able to see your bubs heartbeat for sure and there should be no problems.

Wave hello to beautiful Edinburgh for me. DH used to work there and I used to visit him up there all the time and I really miss it!

I am off to my booking apt soon and still not feeling very pregnant.
I am sure I had a bit of a tummy starting at about the 8 week stage with #2....did feel very bloated then though, so maybe it was just that. If anything, it feels like I have more room in my jeans now! I didn't get a tummy until about 5 months with #1 but my jeans def felt a bit snug!
Going to ask my GP/midwife (not sure which it is I'll be seeing today!) why I don't feel like cr*p and why I'm not getting fat!
So tired today because I didn't go to bed until late last night and #1 decided to get up a whole hour early this morning, waking #2 up, so guess who had to get up early too! I should have known better than to have a late night....normally fall asleep on sofa by 10pm but my brain wouldn't switch off last night!
I can't wait for scan on Friday and yet I am so scared at the same time. Going to have the 2 boys with me as hubbie can't get away from work.....really hope everything ok cos I don't know how I am going to explain what is going on to #1, who is 4 1/2 and very observant!
Think that was the hardest thing about my 3 m/c was not being able to explain to him why mummy was so upset....luckily I hadn't told him the minute I found out I was pregnant like I did with #2....took hpt in toilet in Boots (couldn't wait until I got home!) and #1 was there with me and I told him he was going to be a big brother, which he was very happy about, but I think he thought I meant right away and got a bit tired of waiting! Got a scare with all the bleeding I had with #2 and immediately regretted telling #1....hubbie was annoyed I had told #1 too....just as well it was all ok.
Sorry, didn't mean to ramble on there!
Right, I better get going!

By chance I got the nice GP today and he thought it was good that I had spoken to the EPU and got a scan arranged. He did say though, that, depending on how the scan goes, and if it shows that I am far enough on, they may just use that as my dating scan, meaning that I wouldn't get a 12 week scan, and they don't do 20 week scans in Edinburgh....arghhh!
Was all a bit manic at the GP's office; trying to answer all the q's on the booking form and keep the kids under control at the same time....there was a funny question in there though...."Is your husband a blood relative"....huh?!? errr, no....!

Great scan pics...with my boys I was able to see them really clearly on the screen in the hospital but the actual pic wasn't as clear as yours are....I still looked at them every 2 minutes though!

Well, scan today and I am terrified, but mostly tired as, for the first time ever, my youngest was up for most of the night crying...he was 2 years old last month and even as a newborn he was just such a contented little thing and slept amazingly well at night....so why he would pick last night to do it I don't know! Think he has a cold or maybe some back teeth coming or something. I have been getting up every 3 hours as it is to pee but that I don't mind so much cos I just go straight back to sleep, but having to actually wake up enough to console an upset toddler was not so much fun! I guess I better get used to it in case this baby is here to stay and I'm sure I won't be lucky enough to get another sleepy one!
Bit upset that hubbie didn't even mention the scan this morning....he will be working so can't make it today, but I could have used a hug this morning....he's not much of a morning person mind you so he will probably remember later once his brain switches itself on! Have learned that it's best not to say anything of any importance to him before 9am as he simply won't remember!
3 hours to go....what am I going to do with myself until then?! It's sunny just now so maybe I'll take the boys to the park and get them tired out so they behave themselves at the hospital!

Good Luck today Mayo - my DH is exactly the same in the morning - anything important and I usually send him a text a bit later on to remind him.

Hoooraaaaaaay!
There is a baby in there measuring 18mm which is equal to 8 weeks and 3 days!!! Will have to move my ticker up one day!
So relieved, although still early days yet! Nurse said to be aware that there was an area of bruising which may cause me to have brown discharge (hope not!) but it may just be absorbed by my body and to not worry about it (!).
Well my 4 1/2 year old twigged right away what was what so he knows there is a baby and hasn't stopped going on about it....trying to get him to keep it seceret will be difficult!
