12 week scan - Petrified

Hi

I am going for my twelve week scan on Wednesday and I am absolutely terrified.

I suffered a missed miscarriage two years ago, this was picked up on my 12 week scan. The pregnancy failed at 7 weeks and hadn't come away, I ended up really poorly in hospital.

My DH is so excited for Wednesday and gets really angry with me as I am not as giddy as him. I am terrified that there will be no heartbeat again so I am trying to protect myself by fearing the worst.

We have been ttc for 5 years now and I feel so fortunate that I have managed to get pregnant again (via clomid).

Just wanted to get this off my chest as my husband is so positive and I don't want to spoil things for him with my fears.

Not long know and I hope I will see a healthy strong heartbeat.

another scan question

firstly I cant believe im writing here - still in a state of shock that i got the phone call last thursday to say it was positive, really over the moon and i cant stop smiling.
Ive got my first scan on the 23/4 but just wondering if it will be an internal scan like the first ones that checked my follicles or if it will be an "on the belly" scan, what did everyone else have?

p.s anyone else have to keep getting up during the night (everynight for the last 3 weeks) needing a wee, no matter how many times i go the loo before bed, its driving me crazy as i cant get back to sleep afterwards as a hundred and one things then start going through my head

Hiya Daisybells!

Firstly congratulations! Its a great feeling hey!? I would imagine your first scan will be an internal one as they can see more with that one,you dont normally have a belly one until 12 weeks...and as for the weeing, thats normal and only gets worse, all good fun though !!!! :snigger:

RE: another scan question

Yes, it is likely to be an internal scan.

Just to say, that I have had scans at 8 weeks onwards before and these have been external (transabdominal).

Hi there,

I know its easy to say try not to worry but every pregnancy is different and there is no reason to think that there's anything wrong. My story is exactly the same as yours. I was really worried when I got pg for the second time because of mmc the first time.

But have a look at my ticker!

Wishing you all the best for Wednesday xx

:D so happy for you. Read this thread earlier and totally sympathised with you - I have a 12 week scan tomorrow and I'm so anxious that there won't be a heartbeat anymore (even though I've seen it twice already) - your news has given me a bit more PMA.

Relax and enjoy your evening xxx

Hi
I had an internal scan when I was 6 weeks and 6 days; and then an abdominal one on Saturday at 9 weeks 1 day. The nurse said they would start with the abdominal one first and swop to the internal one if necessary.

We have our first scan on the same day as you. Good luck.
It is a vaginal scan we are having like during the treatment.
It is my understanding that you don't have the other kind until a bit later on. Hope this helps.

Hi ladies
Congratulations on all your BFP's and great scans. I've been too scared to join in incase it isn't true!
I'm 6 weeks, 6 days today from our first attempt at icsi. I had my first scan at 6 weeks 2 days, until then I'd convinced myself it was ectopic or chemical! They found two sacs both with yolks and Babies but only one had a heart beat. They couldn't find the heart beat for the other one. Strangely it was the bigger of the two that they couldn't find it on. I'm going back this Wednesday to check again. We cried with joy. And relief at seeing them too! Do you think anyone manages not to?!
Do you think we've lost one? Or do you think there's a chance it was just too early to find?
Sorry to ramble on!
X

Didnt have my scan!!

Hi all

Well I went to my EPU this morning and was told I couldn't be scan as it was too early to see anything, so they took some bloods and checked to see if my cervix was closed (which it was) and i have to phone back at 3pm for my results.
She also informed me I'm 5 weeks 3 days gone and not 6 like my m/w said.

RE: Didnt have my scan!!

oh, what a shame, but the EPU are right and it is a bit early eyt for a scan.

You had ICSI, didn't you? In which case you can't be dated from your last period. I am guessing your midwife tried to date you from that....which can't be donw with tx.

are they going to scan you next week instead?

advice on why the cervix closes or why they check it?

the cervix is the 'gateway' to your womb. If it isn't closed this can be an early sign of miscarriage.

I odn't know anything about what the HCG level means, but wnated to wish you lots of luck with your scan tomorrow. You should be able to see the sac, although it would be too early to see much else.

I had my scan

Hi all well I had a scan today and they saw a very early yolk sac and a single gest but she said I was too early to see a fetal pole but everything looked ok for 5 weeks
I am to go back in 2 weeks for another scan so I'm now counting the days and praying nothing happens between now and then.

How did the other girls get on with their scans.

Good news!

It's great news to hear that everything is on track for the stage you're at - congrats Zoe.

I have my first scan on Monday - getting quite anxious now to be honest! I'm 6 weeks today - and still can't really believe I'm actually pregnant...!

That's fab Zoe, so when will your next scan be?

I had my 6 week scan today and saw two little hearbeats. Over the moon, but trying not to get too excited. We know it's a long road ahead!

gosh congrats MamaMia, my scan sounds just like yours yesterday!
I feel exactly the same too.

Zoe, it is great news that they have seen the sac there, i think feeling like AF is going to arrive is normal at this stage, I do hope the brown stuff clears up soon. Maybe it arrives at 5pm becuase it's taken your moving around all day to move.Hope time flies to 27th July for you x

Nuchal Fold Scan

Hey all,

This is my first post in the pregnancy section as i'm terrified of jinxing things! I'm 8 weeks pregnant with twins (confirmed yesterday, sort of new it was coming after seeing a second sac at the 6 week scan, but no baby could be seen as yet!). We were given a leaflet yesterday for Nuchal Fold scan and I was just wondering if anyone else has had one and what they think.

I'm 31, DH is 30, I known downs syndrome can affect anyone, but i wouldn't consider us to be high risk and I'n not at all sure whether to have the scan or not. Any thoughts and experiences greatly appreciated.

RE: Nuchal Fold Scan

hi there!

There are quite a few threads on this - try doing a search for nuchal.
here are two recent ones (but there are more):

nuchal thickness scan

To scan or not to scan?

As the advice in those threads says, it really comes down to what you will do with the information that comes back from the scan. I had one and am pleased I did - my results came back as 1:4909 for Down's and I have now declined the NHS triple blood test. However, I would have had an amnio if the results had come back as high and considered a termination if the baby had been shown to have Down's so for me it was an easy choice to have the scan.

good luck, whatever you decide xx

Hiya,

Congrats on your pg - fantastic news.

I agree with what Jensqui has said - it really depends on what you will do with the information.

Myself and DH are similar ages to you and did not forsee a downs risk, however we have friends who had a nuchal which was low risk but then their triple bloods came back high risk, we saw what that stress did to them.
We had a nuchal scan a few weeks ago and it came back at 1:20,000 so we wont be having the blood tests (much lower accuracy) - we know that if we had came back high risk we would have had an amnio and considered a termination so it really comes down to what you will do with the results.

mega good luck with your decision.

Hi

Im also pregnant with twins myself and hubby are a little older than you and we have decided againts the test as it has taken us this long to conceive that are babies are who they are and we will deal with any problems that may arise, when we told the midwife she did say that the test are less accurate when you are carrying twins anyway, not sure how true that is.

I think at the end of the day it really depends on what you would do if the results are high.

Hello,

My step sons Mum was telling me she had the test and it came back at 1:200, she was only 17 at the time too, then when she had her second it came back the same so she didn't have it done for the third as she didn't want the worry.

Our miracle was born on 25.02.2010!!
