My Scan Updates

Good Morning,

Not sure where to post this.

I have just had my 4th icis and got my first ever BFP however i was having pains so went to my local EPU yesterday and they did a scan.

EC 27 July
ET 30 July

So i think i was 5 weeks yesterday on my scan. They saw a Gestational Sac but said it had nothing in it and were very negative about my pregnancy. What would you expect to see on a scan this early? Is there any hope that everything will be fine??

Please help i am devastated. Cry

Baby dust to you all.

oooo hun 5 weeks is so so early! when i was having spud i bled alot and had to have an early scan, they saw nothing...not even a sac at 5 weeks, i went back a week later and there was a sac and little heart beat. honestly hand on heart hun 5 weeks is so early to be able to see anything at all so the fact that there is a sac is fantastic!

please dont give up on your precious little jelly bean, if they had waited a few more days the scan could have been so much more positive.

sending you lots of love, :hugs:

RE: First scan

Oh hun, I am sorry

Did they give you a measurement for the gestational sac?
At 5 weeks I think they would be hoping to see a yolk sac as well as the gestational sac. However, it is still very early and in a few more days time it could be a very different picture and I would not sya that all is lost at this stage. Are they planning to scan you again next week?

the following site is very good for explaining what you would expect to see at early scans:

Hi hun,
I make you 5w1d yesterday, which is incredibly early to see anything on a scan. It's a good sign they saw a sac, but I really wouldn't have thought they'd be able to see/measure anything inside it at this stage.
My first scan was at 5w6d, and they missed an entire baby, so hang on in there. Do you have a scan arranged at your clinic? I am sure you will be able to see much more in just 1-2 weeks time.

oh that sounds awful . i know that noone can tell you that everything will definatly be fine, but i think worrying you at this stage is just pointless.
i hope your next scan is a happier one :hugs:

Okay, hun, I was asking about the gestational sac size because if it has reached a certain size (12mm I believe, give or take a couple for a margin of scan measurement error) and there is no yolk sac present that isn't a good sign.

But yours isn't that large yet and I don;t think they can really be definite at this stage - sometimes gestational sacs aren't seen at 5 weeks.
I do hope they plan to scan you next week to see how things are progressing rather than being negative and leaving you to worry!

Waiting is the worst, but I hope your scan on Wednesday gives you some answers. And until then, stop Googling!

The site that Jen gave the link to says that in the week 5, the gestation sac measures between 6 to 12mm (you are within that range), and that "The yolk sac is first visible at 5 weeks and it is always present by 5 weeks and 4 days." And again, your little one has time to grow a little yolk sac.

I did a lot of Googling when my little ones were a bit small, and I found that IVF pregnancies tend to be a little smaller earlier on than natural pregnancies. They do not know why.

So please do hang on in there,
M

Hi Rach,

Please dont worry. I went for a scan when I was just 5 weeks ish (no certaintly over dates) and they saw the sac and the yoke sac but that is it. The scanner lady said that she was cautiously optimitic and would not expect to see a great deal else so early on.

I have scared myself witt less by googling so please avoid it. I wish that I hadn't!
I am going for another scan tomorrow and have been petrified since the first one of what this one will show. I think it is all very normal. Not helpful I know but normal.

Keep positive Rach bigkiss

Thank you so much for all your kind words, i was just terrified as the sac was empty or they thought so. I rang earlier for my Beta results from yesterday and it was 3882 not sure if this is good, but will have another one tomorrow so at least tomorrow night i should know one way or the other. Come on Little bean!!!

update from me.

Just wanted to thank you all for supporting me on my previous post after the horrible scan and horrible people at the early pregnancy unit.

On tuesday they also took a blood test beta result came through yesterday at 3286 today i had to go and have another one and the result is in 6698 yipppeeeeee

So all i can say is please try not to get a early scan as it scares you senseless, i know the wait for the one at the clinic is a right drag, but the week i have had it a lot worse, they pretty much told me no hope and today i proved them wrong. Roll on my clinic scan next Wednesday.

Huge hugs to you all i may even join a chat now... :D
