Raging Thrush!!

Ladies

I am crying out for your help please!! I have a really bad bout of thrush which nothing seems to be relieving. Has been brought on after some antibiotics for a chest infection but I am in absolute agony. I have used the internal and external cream but to no avail.

Just wondering if any of you lovely ladies have some other cures??

Hi Heather, My DH is a pharmacist and they won't sell anything to pregnant ladies for thrush it has to be prescribed by your doc, give em a ring and see if they'll do u a prescription for something, I think at this stage of your pregnancy they'll let you have most things but better to be safe than sorry!

Hi Heather

Plain live yoghurt has always worked wonders for me, and totally safe too. Sounds gross, but, straight from the fridge, sit on an old towel or something and literally smother it all over your bits. Sit there smothered for as long as you can tolerate it, then wipe yourself clean with kitchen towels. Maybe leave it at least a couple of hours before having a bath or shower (no bubbles).

Hope this helps.

Do not suffer this. The bio - live yoghurt is a great relief and works for mild infections but I had a really sever infection of thrush in the early stages of pregnancy and although Canesten (spelling ?) which is mild was what I went to Doc for and usually works, he prescribed another one called Gyno- Daktarin (miconazil nitras) made by Janssen-Cilag because it was so bad, Perhaps you could you ask your doctor about it. I had to apply it for 10 nights with applicator. I was pretty scared because I got no relief for two days and the lashings and lashings of creamy live yoghurt didn't help much. Third day, slightly better Fourth day - heaven! And I stuck to the tx and never relapsed.

You probably have all the other usual advice re cotton panties, wearing airy skirts, keeping as clean and dry as you can, no trousers or synthetics and stay away from all sugary foods / drinks .....

Oh Heather, i'm so sorry you have this.

I have had it before and like you always get it when taking antibiotics.

The onle one I know of is the live yoghurt, but go this from a website, although the tampon one is out of the question whilst p/g.

'Natural' remedies for thrush include: live yoghurt inserted into the vagina; adding vinegar or bicarbonate of soda to a bath to alter the acidity of the vagina; tampons impregnated with tea tree oil. However, there is little scientific evidence to show that these remedies work.

Hope this helps, and hope you feel better soon. xx

Heather, that sucks! Vinegar and baking soda in the bath also something I've tried in the past, supposed to help correct acidity levels there making less conducive environment for the thrush to grow. Didn't get rid of it for me but calmed it down a bit I think... vinegar also dry's things up a bit, and at least it was also relaxing :-)

Thank you ladies - managed to get some live yoghurt and tho it was messy seems to be easing a bit now :D

It been a while since had a bout and had forgotten how miserable it can be. Hadn't heard about the vinegar thing before so is great to learn something new.

Laura I know the pharmacist was only doing her job but could of killed her at the time! I was very naughty and went to another chemist and said it was for my sis and internal cream has worked wonders :O

Hi Heather, hope you are feeling better but if not I had a nasty bout at 28 weeks and was advised to ask for the lower dose canesten pessaries 200mg and you are supposed to use them for 3 nights running but I only did 2 nights and I didnt use the applicator as it advised not to on the instructions but it clears it almost straight away. They come as a 3 pack so if it didnt work you could always use the 3rd.
Good luck and hope you feel better soon. x

Thanks Clare for that. I thought it was all clearing up but feels a bit like it may be coming back. I am seeing cons this week so will ask him what is the best advice and get a prescription for whatver he advises. Just hoping it is a bit of this hot weather.

May try the vinegar bath later but will only make me want to eat fish and chips :snigger:
