Cramps, is that ok?

Hi!
I don't know if I'm in the right place! I'm hoping someone will be able to reassure me. I have just had a bfp this morning - still not sure if I can believe it.

I have been having stomach cramps on and off for at least the last week and was kind of expecting af, so its a bit surprising! I'm still geting like a dull crampy achy feeling about several times a day.

Does this mean something is not right or is it normal?
I'm going to ring my acu on monday and ask anyway but just thought you lot might know!

Thanks
Dee x

It does seem to be quite common to experience twinges at around the time you get your BFP and go on to have a normal, healthy pregnancy. As long as the discomfort isn't 'severe' and isn't accompanied by bleeding then do try not to worry. The first few months of pregnancy are absolutely fraught with worries for everyone I'm afraid.

Hi Dee, first of all, congratulations!!

Secondly, try not to worry about cramps. They are perfectly normal and you may experience them on and off throughout your pregnancy, but particularly in the early days. Your body still has to get used to it's normal signals being switched off. Your uterus is also doing things that it has never done before, like growing a lining unlike anything it has ever experienced before and providing nutrients for that growing little being.

Try to relax, and enjoy every day of your pregnancy.

I had a little bit of light blood this morning too, so the worry continues. I can't wait for the acu to open tomorrow so I can speak to them about it. I'm sure its far too early to scan or anything, but I guess I'll have a bllod test to see what that reveals?

Congratulations - I think some cramping is natural as is light spotting. I would worry if the spotting became bright red blood and the cramping severe. Probably best to get checked out though to put your mind at rest.

Good luck x

Hi Dee and congratulations!

Do have a read of this thread BLEEDING IN PREGNANCY which will hopefully reassure you a little about the spotting. Lots of people experience cramping in the first trimester.

Good idea to call the ACU tomorrow. Blood tests a few days apart are really needed to show that the HCG levels are rising as expected.

Thanks guys!
Thanks Jen, I've read that link and it is was very useful. I'm trying not to worry about it because theres nothing I can do till tomorrow anyway. The pain is only a dull ache every now and then and the bleeding is not heavy, though ranges from browny to pink. Its not frank blood, it is more like a stained CM. I do have quite severe cervical erosion (delicate cells on the outside of the cervix) so I'm hoping it may jst be that.

It is annoying not to be able to get really excited abuot my first ever bfp though- still, I guess theres plenty of time for that later (hopefully).

Once again, FZ is keeping me sane though.... I can't thank you all enough!

Hi Dee,

I had cramps after my bfp for a couple of weeks. They werent painful but it felt as though i was going to get AF. They have settled down now but i still get the occasional twinge which i believe is quite normal for week 12/13.

I also had brown coloured spotting/staining. I actually still do but only around the time of my missed periods! It is a tan colour and sticky in texture (sorry if tmi). I got it for a few days after my bfp, then again for four days at 8 weeks pregnant and then again at 12 weeks pregnant so it seems to tie in with he timing for AF. I have been to the drs and they assure me all is fine and i also got to listen to the heartbeat at 9 weeks and also saw 1 healthy baby on my ultrasound at 12 weeks so try not to worry. I know easier said than done because i still do now! I still worry when i get this brownish discharge even after i've seen my baby, but the fact of the matter is, if i didnt get the discharge any more i'd probably think something was wrong then!

Im sure u'll be absolutely fine xx

Thanks Jen. I'm trying to remain optimistic, but unfortunatelyat about 4 ish I went to the loo and had a little blood clot and some red CM y stuff. Got a bit scared so rang NHS direct, they got me an appointment at 'local care direct' at the hospital and I've just got back. The doc was lovely but basically said that its too early to know one way or the other. I've got forms for quantitative hcg blood tests for tomorrow and wednesday. The hcg level apparently doubles in 48 hours if the pregnancy is doing ok, and obviously if the hcg is going down then unfortunatley it is game over this time. He was reassuring, saying his wife bled daily for the first 9 weeks of pregnancy! Bless him!

Anyway, perhaps I was a bit premature posting on the first trimester thread. Sorry. And I have to remain positive in knowing that I can get pregnant at least even if we're not successful this time it is a massive leap forward for us.

To the technical peeps - Please feel free to move this if there is a more appropriate not-so-sure section!

Nope, we don't have a not-so-sure section so if you're ok being here for the moment we'll leave it. I also wanted to say that I really hope everything is ok - best of luck at the appointment tomorrow and fingers crossed your bloods show that it is all ok.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Personally I think I'm bleeding too much for it to be ok, had a dark red clot this morning. I will obviously still go for the bloods, if not only to prove to myself that I really was pregnant.

I feel such a fraud being on this thread.

Thank you so much for thinking of me, you're all so lovely!

I was feeling really heartbroken this morning and had a really good cry when DH had left for work! I've spoken to a friend on the phone about it all and she's great and I do feel better for getting it all off my chest.

I had the bloods this morning which I will ring my gp tomorrow to see if there's a result, although it won't actually tell me much till the result of the second one on weds comes back to see if it is rising or falling.

It would just be nice to know one way or the other so I can just deal with it. The cramps are gone, I haven't had any since yesterday, but the red/brown mucousy stuff is always there whenever I go to the loo.

Thank you Laura.

I rang the GP to get my 'baseline hcg'

It was 1424.

I'm quite pleased with that, although I know it doesn't mean anything on its own and it is the next one that counts. My GP was lovely (I was quite surprised!). She asked me about what colour and how much bleeding. It has continued much the same, sometimes red sometimes brown and anywhere in between. Only a little bit actually came down onto a pantyliner (sorry!) but it is still always there when I wipe, and it seems like loads. But the gp was really reassuring, saying that you can bleed from anywhere in the uterus as long as its not where the egg implanted and it can still be ok. It is nowehere near as much as af. So I feel a bit more hopeful tonight (cautiously of course).

Bloods again in the morning then just another 24 hour wait. It helps to be at work though - I'd be going mental at home all day! Luckily my boss is a gem, very understanding - I was a hermit in the office all day!

hcg 4823 yesterday!

The nurse at the acu who told me my result this morning said that my bloods were doing well, but that I should just be cautious because I am still bleeding.

But I am now going to be optimistic and hope and pray that the bleeding settles and its all going to be ok. DH and I are really excited - I hope that's not wrong, we just can't help it biggrin2

Thank you so much for thinking of me, it means so much.

Thanks guys! The bleeding has settled a bit today, just some brown stuff so hopefully it'll give me a rest from worrying for a while!

Bubble, no they haven't given me any ideas. I have a few of my own though. I have very bad cervical erosion which they saw at my lap and dye. I used to get post sex bleeding sometimes and breakthrough bleeding on the pill. DH and I had sex an Sat morning and I wondered if the cells from the uterus that are growing on the outside of my cervix could be extra sensitive because of all the thickening and increased blood supply to the uterus? Its never bled that much before after sex but I thought maybe it could?

Also I don't know if things are more likely to bleed as I only had surgery 5 weeks ago?

Hopefully I won't have to worry about it again!

I have a scan on 8th Dec, only a week on monday so thats not too long to wait!

I know I've said it lots but you're all so lovely and I have really appreciated your support during one of the most stressful weeks of my life!
