Antenatal Classes - when to start

Have been giving this some thought recently and wonder when the best time is to start going. My local clinic only allows you to attend 1 class there, then you have to go to another clinic to attend again ?( god knows why!

They normally hold antenatal classes about 12 weeks or so before your due date in batches of like date due people.

If you want to do the NCT classes it's best to ask now as they book up really quickly but even the NHS ones do get busy so mention it to your mw as soon as possible! The NHS ones are free but the NCT do charge.

I am seeing my midwife again in a few weeks (between 18-20 weeks), so will ask her then, I have registered for the NCT ones and paid our deposit so just hoping we get a suitable date now.

We were not advised of our ante natal classes until I was around 32 weeks, I think we had our first class when I was about 33 weeks.

That was with the NHS and the midwife.

We contacted NCT for ante natal classes and got on a waiting list and the other girls there were all due same time as us. We just completed that one too, they ran the same weeks as the NHS one.

I dont think you get them till later on in pregnancy. Ask your midwife.
