What does "UX 3/5 Palpable" mean?

I know baby is head down but not sure if midwife said if baby engaged or not. Having a flick through my notes I noticed it said "Longitudinal lie, cephalic presentation LOL UX 3/5 palpable" - I had left GP surgery by then so couldn't ask. Anyone familiar with maternity note "official speak" to interpret that for me? I am going to ask my m/w at apt on Mon 18th also.

3/5 palpable means that 2/5's of baby's head is in the pelvis, as she can feel the 3/5. So not engaged, but working her way down! Cephalic just means head down.

LOL refers to the exact position of the head within the pevis- Left Occipito Lateral. Basically this means that the baby is lying on his left side, with his head looking towards your right.
Never heard of the abbreviation UX, could it perhaps be VX?? THis stands for vertex presentaion whihc essentilaly refers to the head.

Saz is spot on with the palpapable bit!

Saz

Longitudinal lie - means up and down.
It may read VX and not UX which means vertex which is the crown of your babys head.
Sorry to disagree, but 3/5 is actually an engaged head.

All in all, your baby is in a really good position for the big event..

Good luck..

I think Saz was just explaining that SN's baby's head is two fifths engaged and three fifths palpable which is exactly what is says on the tin ... 2/5 below the brim the pelvis - 3/5 above the brim of the pelvis. Whether that's classed as engaged for the purpose of the other midwives is beside the point as it doesn't give any more clarification for the Mum to be.

There's often a lot of confusion on here as some midwives record what's palpable and some record what's engaged. It's helpful to our members to have things explained very simply so that they can feel involved. It's all gobbledegook for many M2Bs isn't it? ... and many do worry about these things.
