hospital bag

After Willow shocking me yesterday - realised I probably need to sort this out, as in actually get a bag first to put on standby.

Any idea what goes on it - any tips as to what I actually need?

Thanks in advance

ALWAYS ULTRA LOL. The pads at the hospital are like books!!! Lip balm, breast pads (if planning to breastfeed), PJs, some clothes for baby, anything you want really, ive not done that for over 6 years so sorry cant be of much help. I have forgotten most of the things i took!!!. Do you have a pg and birth book, there might be a page in there that would give you some ideas.

a pair of socks too.....feet get really cold when you are labouring!

slippers, dressing gown, big towels (darkish colour as they can come back quite messy )
disposable pants or cheapy big pants you dont mind throwing away as they can get messy too.
a hat for baby....the m/w shouted at me for not having one for spud to come home in...

cant think of anything else.

Some kind of body wipe ... if you're in hospital for a couple of days, it's gonna be boiling. It's nice to give yourself a wipe down between visitors or if you don't feel up to a shower

my dh was allowed to stay with me during labour and one other visitor too if needed...when spud was born they settled me in a room after 2 hrs dh was kicked out, but i think he needed it tbh.,...he phoned everyone and got some kip then he was back for visiting later on...

i think different hospitals have different policies tho, might be worth asking??

Wish I'd pulled my finger out booking my classes earlier.
Although I'm glad I'm going when I am so I can focus entirely on the birth prep rather than work as well

Definitely bring socks and a dressing gown. I hadnt got round to packing my dressing gown as i was 2 weeks early and i was bloody freezing! The hospital was boiling during the day but i found it really cold at night and had to put on an extra 2 pairs of socks and ask for extra blankets! - then again, that was in Feb.

The hospital where i gave birth allowed the dads to stay from 10am til around 10pm xx

and vaseline is a godsend too.... lips get really dry if using the enteox, and it cna also act like a bit of lip gloss for you when the visitors pile in!

Magicool is fab too if you have a fridge or cool bag to keep it chilled and the best tip i was given was take a tennis ball - it feels amazing being rubbed in the base of your back inbetween contractions!! I echo the part about taking tons of pads for after and also get some moist tissue paper (non fragranced) as the stuff in the hosp can be pretty rough and trust me it does not feel good after you have given birth lol!! I would also take a nice blanket for your baby as my hospital used towels even for him to sleep in!! Not very attractive in your first photos lol!!

Thanks all

I've got great tips there - the lists on the web don't go from experience I don't think. Love the tennis ball idea too!!

Just read somewhere that some hospitals don't like you using babywipes  so might be an idea to take cotton wool instead.

(Though, what business it is of the hospital what you wipe your baby's backside with, is beyond me ... )

Ok, full list here Hospital Bag List

I'll add in any further suggestions so that there's no trawling of threads to do.

Baby wipes contains so many chemicals and are rather nasty.
My eyes and face stings after I use it on my face. I had no wish what so ever to put a babywipe anywhere near Z's bum!
They are OK after you rinse them a few times but way too harsh to use neat on a new baby!
Cotton woll is very soft and gentle!
