6th week scan - internal or external?

Hi ladies,
I am supposed to have my first pregnancy scan ever on 3rd July! It's a 6th week scan but I won't be able to have it in my fertility clinic as I will be away in Italy. I just called to ask reception if it is an internal or external scan that I need so to be able to tell the doctor (even if I guess they will know what to do...), and they told me external... however I have been browsing a bit around (as usual!) and I have read that most of the times you get an internal scan at week 6 (even later). May I ask you what did you have?

I had an internal scan at 7 weeks, I'm certainly no expert but I'm led to believe early scans are always internal

I have now found also other threads here confirming it is usually internal at this early stage.

Hi, Coquina and congrats on your BFP
I had internal scans at 6, 8 and 11 weeks. My first external was at 16 weeks.
Most clinics will do the early scans internally but it is not impossible for them to do early scans externally and, with a good technician and a full bladder it can be as accurate as an internal...

I had a clear external scan at seven weeks

Me - 36 DH - 48. TTC since 2008
March/April 2013 Immune DE ICSI Gennet, Prague :BFP:

Diagnosed with severe pre eclampsia at 23 weeks
