On Friday, we had a week 7 scan, and found out we are having twins! We are very happy, more me, than OH probably, as he is more worried about other aspects of it all. I am so excited, on the other hand, that I could barely slep for the first night, and still had trouble the second one.

I did have a feeling that we might ave twins, and ther was always a chance wince we had 2 embryos put back in, but it was amazng to see it on the screen and to hear the heart beats.

Now we just need to wait and make sure all goes well. I have another scan at week 10 and week 12 (as part of the trial), so I *might* have a double week 12 scan - one a the clnic and one at local hospital. I got my appointment with GP next week to sort out the midwife, etc.

I am quick to run my mind run away, and already started looking through double pushchairs online, ideas for the nursery, etc. I know, anything can still happen - we are still very early in the journey. Oh thinks we already have everything we need. We do have a cotbed, but I want to sell it and buy to identical cots, move the baby room to another one (sightly bigger), and redecorate it. I know, I have a fight on my hands for this - but we have waited 4 years for this, I want this to be perfect...

Sorry for going on - I still can't quite contain myself! now, how do I get thought the next few weeks? I barely have any symptoms, no sore boobs, tiny bit of nausea (which is quite normal for me anyway), very tired, and out of breath (but then I have never been very fit). Someone - stop me, or I will start booking my maternity leave!

Thanks all! I hope I will get some sleep before next scan - it is 2.5 weeks away still!

I just want to stay at home and protect myself from any colds and bugs going around. Unfortunately, as I have to take train to work some days, it is not possible. But, I have decided that I will spend a bit more and get the first class ticket - at least I will be more likely to get a seat!

I think I was much more relaxed this time, and you are right - the difference between the two cycles is unbelievable! We couln't believe we got 10 eggs and 7 of them fertilised - and that after iven less than 5% chance of having our own children.

I just hope all goes well with not too many hick-ups. I am worried that something might go wrong, but that is just natural, I guess. I am trying to resist googling what are our chances of not reaching 12 weeks. I want to live in my own happy world, where everything is going perfectly well!

Amber, I think all us twin parents might start gushing in here. It is fantastic, and it is lovely to hear how excited you are - it brought back those memories for me too.
About symptoms, don't worry about them. With my twin pregnancy I had no symptoms but lots of bleeding - I was terrified but my twins arrived safely at 38+ weeks. So far with my current singleton pregnancy, I've had extreme fatigue, heartburn, tender boobs, want to throw up if I smell something bad...the works! They say every pregnancy is different, and I totally believe that.

Thanks all! I am truly happy and looking forward to the other 7+ months of the pregnancy. the only thing I would like is not to have to go to work and just enjoy my time at home! But, I guess, it won't take long to get to that stage - I am planning to take all of my annual before maternity leave, so I only have about 5 to 5 and a half months left, I think.

I was still going to the slimming world, but I have made a decision to stop. So, I will go to the meeting today, but I am just going to say good bye to the leader, and go home. Will save £5 a week as well!

If you have any tips to share, I would love to hear them - anything from coping with pregnancy to sorting the bits for the babies, organising nursery, sleeping arrangements, everything, really...

We have week 10 scan on Thursday at the clinic, and I am getting more worried this time that somehting might be wrong, we may have lost one. etc. I have no reasons to think so - no bleeding, no cramping, but not many pregnancy symptoms either. I haven't been sick, boobs are not sore and have not grown at all, I have been tired, but even that seems to be improving now (went to bed at 9.45pm last night and was awake before 6am!). Don't really have any cravings, only don't like brussel sprouts anymore, and don't even want to look at bananas (although made sure I had at least 1 a day in earlier weeks)...

How likely is it to loose one baby betweek the scans with now sympoms of miscariage?... I know, I only havetwo more nights to wait to see what is happening.

I have put on a little weight (about 1kg), but I can easily attribute that to too much food last week, whilst on the training course. and the same for my stomach - yes, i could start thining that I might be starting to show, as the dress I used to wear is quite tight around that area today, but then again - extra food/bloatiness... I wish there was a way to see inside yourself, so that you could be sure all is going well and stop you thinking of what if scenarios...

I always used to worry before a scan. I think its quite normal. I used to think
someone would take these little ones away from me. That was my paranoia for
a lot of the pregnancy. I relaxed after my 20 week scan. I wish is been
calmer earlier as pregnancy is so exciting.

Please try not to worry about symptoms. I didn't really have any. Had
little or no sickness. No sore boobs and even tiredness was limited.

They are still there! They looked perfect, with their arms an legs moving, measured fine for the dates, I am 10 weeks. Next scan in 2 weeks!

Thank you! I am trying to be positive. We went into a few shops (M&P, mother care, john Lewis) to just have peek. Saw the baby jogger city select in real life (in use, actually talked to the mum) and I quite like it. Went into John Lewis after to have a play with it as well. Would like it not black, but i guess my choice will be limited! Not buying anything yet, just looking around. Well need to get OH to agree with whatever choice we make.

I ad my friend with m today, as OH couldn't make due to being away and we had a lovely day out, although very tiring. Still waiting for the fruit cake to finish baking before we go to sleep. My friend was so lovely, that even though we didn't plan for her to stay tonight, she brought additional clothes in case something wasn't well and she wanted to stay with so I wasn't alone.

We have the carrycot attachments that aren't being used any more, so must get round to selling those on.

What do you think about this pushchair now, that you have used it? Would yo still buy it, or look fr something else? I was advised at John Lews, that although you can have seats facing each other, it is practically impossible to put them that way. What do you think?

We use it every day.
We even have a twin mum friend who took back her iCandy to John Lewis and swapped it for a City Select! :thumbup:

Would gladly buy it again.

We use the seats facing each other all the time. The girls are 10months old and it still means they can face each other.
If you use the maxicosi car seat adapters, the 2 car seats can only face rearwards (as can the carrycots).

The 2 "main" seats can face together, away, both front or both rear. :thumbsup:

Thank you! We will definitely have to have a close look at it when w come to choosing one.

Called my mum earlier, and she seems to set to almost move in here. It is going to be hard, but she will have to be landed on the ground and told that she can't spend months here. Both me and OH would go crazy, and it would be unfair for his family as we would have no space for them to come over. I can get ready for her guilt show and tears - she always does this to ge things her way.

Didnt realize you had this thread, glad everything went well with your scan & your keeping ok.

I had my 12wk scan on Tue, I couldnt believe the difference from 7wks, 1 baby was just lyin back relaxing & the other 1 was going mad moving around. My Doc told me I would be taken by 38wks, I asked him about delivering naturally & he said as long as the 1st baby isnt breech & is head 1st then that would be fine. I'm just thinking of afterwards trying to look after 2 babies after a C-Section but will be will be as long as their safe & healthy thats fine!

I didnt even realize until reading your thread that Baby Jogger done the City Jogger Select, it looks brillant, I was looking at the city mini twin, I have the single 1 for my little girl & its brillant, but the select looks really good, will have to find a store that has it.

Hi allyw!

I would prefer natural birth too, but OH thinks that because it is his babies too, he can decide where I am going to give birth and how. The care after the babied post C-section is worrying me too, as I don't want either my mum or OH's mum staying here long term. We had a chat about the mums staying over, and he thinks we will need them and cannot do without them. Maybe, but if either of them stays here longer than a week or two, I will be in the straight jacket or in serious risk of post natal depression.

The doctor at the clinic told us, that they don't let you go beyond 38 weeks with twins, as there is an increased risk of still birth afterwards (it is also in NICE guidelines). When my grandma had twins (my mum and her sister) she gave birth at about 7 months. That would be just about Easter time for me!!! I hope I can carry them for longer, at least until mid-May... I am not sure where you are from, allyw, but apparently John Lewis has them - I saw it and had a play in Liverpool. I still look longingly at Stokke Xplory, as that was my dream pushchair for a single baby, but it is not to be anymore! I have the whole new task - to find the perfect twin one! They also had Bugaboo Donkey (I think) in John Lewis, I am just worried that it could be too wide, but I didn't have a play with that one.

Hi Amber, I had to post as you not wanting either mums staying long term struck a chord with me, as I was exactly the same! No matter how much help someone is, for me having someone to stay would have been extra stress while DH and I were finding our feet learning how to be parents. I had a C-section and stayed in hosp 4 nights, and when I came home, although it was still painful and I was shuffling around it was ok. DH luckily had 5 weeks off work in total, otherwise I would have had my mum to stay as it was too hard for me on my own at the very beginning. If DH went out to get some shopping and my boys needed a feed, I was so proud to manage to get them onto my BF cushion by myself! I think people generally recover pretty quickly, although I had wanted a natural birth too!

Thank you, claire! I know it is going to be hard - I don't have rosy glasses on. But having to deal with either my parents and their 'good wishes' or parents in law, and taking care of the babies is going to be hard.

OH went back home couple of weekends ago and chatted with some friends, and someone told him that having mother or mother in law was invaluable, and she would not have been able to do without this help. So now he is stuck that we HAVE to have one of the parents at least staying with us. I have a hard fight on my hands. I think I will tell him his mum can come 2 weeks after we get home and he needs to take annual leave for that, and will deal with my mum separately. However, none of them are welcome to stay than a week, ok, max 2 weeks!!! If I do struggle and can't do without help, I could always get the flight tickets for my mum to come... Although not as cheap as buying them ages in advance!

Has anyone found an app for iPad for twins? I have sprout and one other, but they are for single pregnancy and it would be nice to get something for twins. For example, sprout says I have 200 days to go, but as I am not going to reach 40 weeks, that is not right...

Congratulations Amber - reading your post brought back a lot of happy memories for me too. Glad you're doing well and hope the next seven months go swimmingly. My advice to you is don't bank on the birth being early or the kids being small... I did that and ended up being induced at 38+, then having an emergency c-sec and having 2x 7lb4 babies, so all the little baby stuff that I'd bought/been given wasn't much use! Just keep an open mind and go with the flow, that way neither you or partner get too stressed!

I just had the 'what to expect' app on my iphone while I was pregnant. It counts forward rather than down and gives lots of little hints along the way.

I know what you mean about having mothers around - my MIL ended up staying with us for weeks and whilst her help was appreciated most of the time in the early days, she also drove us both absolutely bonkers! Do accept as much help as you can though, your body will appreciate it when you get a chance to sleep/shower/eat properly!

I am hoping they don't come too early or are too small. My mum and her sister were born at 7 months and were not that small for that time: one was 4lb, one 4lb 3.5oz. So not that small for that age, I would think.

However, I want to keep my mind open in case something happens and they are early. I am planning to finish work at about 30 weeks, would finish now if I could - it is getting too tiring and stressful (spend an hour crying yesterday over something my boss said).

I am back at the stage where I am worried about every single twinge - haven't had a scan in 12 days, and I am off again. I am getting different kind of pains, and I do hope all is well. Have a scan on Friday (12w+1), so will get some re-assurance then, and then NT scan on Wednesday. Keeping fingers and toes crossed.

I bought my first item - Avent steriliser in Amazon sales last week. And OH came back yesterday telling that the NCT nearly new sale is on January 15th, so maybe we will go and have a look there - I'll be 18 weeks then.

I want to redecorate one of the rooms for the nursery and replace the cotbed we had for little visitors with two cots, and look at other bits. There is plenty of time!

Thank you all for the support and advise - it is very much appreciated. I know it is going to be difficult, there is no fooling myself, but I am really looking forward to being mum.

Just an update.

Week 12 scan at the clinic was great. Babies measured ahead, with the 'straighter' one measuring at 12w+6, the more curled up at 12w+1 (I was 12w+1 on the day). Have NHS dating /NT scan on Wednesday.

Went to the first baby shop yesterday, had a chance to see Baby Jogger City Select in action, and I loved it. OH after looking at iCandy Peach blossom (smaller, but more tedious and £400 more), some graco (not suitable from birth), side-by-side (too wide for comfort) or bugaboo donkey (side by side, and very expensive), he seems to have "realised" that Baby jogger is the best option of the ones that we saw.

And I couldn't resist last night and ordered the doppler from Amazon - Sonoline B...

Had NHS scan last Wednesday and they changed my due date to June 13th, and said I was 13w+2 on that day. Since that doesn't add up, I am still keeping the 13w+2 as they said, but in my mind I moved my due date to June 11...

I am still very tired - when does that end? And for the last week or so I have been suffering with the headaches. Not bad enough that I can't do anything, but enough to stop me from enjoying myself and this time. The paracetamol doesn't help, so I stopped taking it, as don't see the point.

We went to Germany this weekend, which, although tiring, was great. In the Christmas market on Sunday we saw Zoom tandem in action, even fallowed them for a while to have a good look. It looks great, similar to Baby Jogger City Select, in that seats can face either way, and plenty of space. Will try to see if we can find it in some shop in the UK to go and have a play. I think it is made by ABC design in Germany, but here it is sold under Obaby Zoom. Has anyone seen it in the shops? I can find it online in a few places, but I am not willing to buy without seeing.

The main difference I see is that BJ can be used as a single pushchair as well, whereas Zoom can't.

Hi, was just abut to post an update!

We are getting on ok. I am still tired - the energy boost never came around this way. I started taking iron tablets twice a day 2 weeks ago, and saw consultant today again, who left me very upset, as she was contradicting all that her colleague said 3 weeks ago and physio told me two weeks ago, she didn't know the guidelines for twin pregnancy (she moved my 24 weeks scan to 28 weeks and wanted to send me to GP for 24 week appointment instead of seeing me in the hospital, until the midwives put her right). She is not going to test my bloods now until 28 weeks, so I am not sure if the iron is working or not. We are going to visit OH's family, and his mum is a retired 'blood' doctor, sow might ask her to arrange a blood test for me, just to make sure my iron levels are not dropping further.

We had a scan on Tuesday, both babies are fine, no anomalies noticed, we possibly have one of each, but the sonographer couldn't get a decent view, so I am taking this with a pinch of salt, although it would be lovely to get one of each.

I was also told today to look at finishing work earlier rather than later (28 weeks were mentioned this time), and managed to get my MATB1 certificate, so now have to make a decision when to actually start the maternity leave, as i also want to take all my annual leave before I start maternity leave. I know for sure that I don't want to work past 1st of April (30 weeks).

I have started stocking up on nappies, I think I have about 14-15 packs of size 1 (2-5kg) nappies already, and need to get to ASDA again to get more starter packs with the vouchers I've got. I think I may need more than 400 nappies in this size, they are unlikely to grow them out in a month! Just need to find where to store them! (but a big saving with huggies starter packs being £3 now, and I have £2 vouchers off them , so get a pack of nappies, a pack of wipes and a hat for £1!!!!)

Sorry to hear your feeling so tired, hopefully the iron tablets will start kicking in, I'm the same as you & under hospital & not shared care which I'm really glad acout, pity they messed you about with the scans, I'm was surprised when my consultant told me, he was scanning me every 3wks but think its great as the weeks seem to be going so fast.

I am finishing work 2nd Apr which I'll be 31wks then, fingers crossed but I'm taking all my leave then so official Mat leaves dosnt start until 9th May, are they taking you by 38wks as well, my doc told me due date is 2nd Jun but he would be starting me by 19th May.

You are putting me to shame with the nappies, I havent even started to stock up yet, better get a move on but I need order the Tommee Tipee starter sterlizer kit from amazon reduced from £100 to £65, it has so much stuff included in it, couldnt believe it & when you look at the other websites it is over £100 to buy anywhere else, you get 6 bottles, 10 teats, milk dispenser, 2 insulated bottle bags, cleaning brush, storage lids, sterlizer & travel sterlizer, bottle & food warmer! What a bargain!

Ally, there is plenty of time to stock up of stuff! I only started as I had some vouchers expiring.

NICE guidelines say you should be scanned no less than every 28 days (even for non-identical twins), but obviously, my consultant doesn't read guidelines. She hasn't talked about the delivery part yet. My due date is 13 June, I know I won't be going into June, I just hope I can hold on until May, would be happy to reach 36 weeks.

I can't remember things now - my brain got mushy with pregnancy (really, I messed up so many things!). Are you expecting identical on not twins? I want to get a private scan, so I can enjoy it as well (the hospital ones I get 2 min of probe being run around me in total, and the rest of the time the screen is turned away from me), and also see if we can confirm what we are having.

I was planning to finish work same time as you (30 weeks), using the annual leave then, and starting maternity leave May 14th. I still need my boss to sign off the annual leave, and I have just yesterday asked HR about bank holidays, how are they going to do with those and if I can take them before or after maternity leave.

I got Avent steriliser (steam one, 3-in-1) in Amazon sale in November, it was down to about £20 and I had a gift vouchers given to me, so it cost me only £6.99, couldn't resist when it usually is about £65!!! Besides, we still don't have a microwave (lived without one for about 8 years now and haven't missed it).

I'll let you know. My contract states, that I am entitled to 30 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, so I hope I can have them back. If those days fall when I am not working due to maternity leave I do not see why I should be penalised and not given them back/paid for them as I would normally do... Maybe I am living in a very optimistic world in this respect!

I have read few older threads on different forums and it seems to vary. One lady actually called equal rights to find out, and they mentioned to her that it would be a breach of legal rights at work if she wasn't allowed to take the days instead at a time when she is back at work, as the men would not be on maternity leave and they would be entitled to the days off.

I think that is the part of the problem that there is nothing set out legally.

An update! Last week we have been on holiday to Italy and mother in law arranged us another scan at the local hospital. Which was amazing... It took 45 min, compared to 15min on NHS, and I could see the screen all the time, and the doctor explained everything she was measuring.

So, we having a boy and a girl! The girl was slightly smaller than the boy, but only slightly. They measured 50th percentile, so both are growing well.

My iron levels, on the other hand, dropped even more in a month, from 9.7 to 9.0 in about a month. Need to get the consultant to check them next week, instead of what she was saying to check them at 28 weeks, which is more than one month away!

Allyt - finally HR came back to me saying that I will accrue bank holidays during the maternity leave as holiday days. So, a result for me - I will be coming back to extra 9 days off next year!

And I had another email from them saying that the rules for maternity leave are different than normal annual leave, so I can carryover more than 5 days and I don't have to take them by the end of March (well, I wouldn't be able as I wouldn't be back at work by then!

Ally, have you informed your HR about the pregnancy yet? I have told them long time ago, but still need to send the MATB1 certificate and tell the exact date (May 14th). I am taking annual leave before, and not going to work at all in April (will be 30 weeks). I can't wait!
