9 weeks, expecting twins, in excruciating pain and bleeding.

Hi all

I am now 9+1 expecting twins after ICSI and I started bleeding last night.
I had spotting at 6 weeks and then started brown discharge last week but was told it was ok unless it became red with sharp pain.
I wiped red blood last night then brown again and the pain in my lower tummy started getting stronger.
I tried to call the hospital but no one would pick up the phone so called nhs direct and they sent me to the walk in centre.

The gp touched my tummy and checked my urine as they thought I had an infection but I didn't
He sent me Home saying it was normal to bleed in pregnancy and it could be my uterus stretching.

I am not reassured at all as the pain kept increasing and this morning I couldn't come out of bed. It was so painful it felt like some body was cutting my stomach with a knife!

I read that a lot of people bleed with twins and it can be normal but the hospital told me that if it was red and with sharp pain it wasnt good sign, but now that I feel this nobody seems to do anything???

I am extremely worried and not sure what to do? I have my first midwife appointment today and hops she will listen to me cause so far I have been feeling different pain since day1, but this is far too strong and cannot be "normal"?

Did any of you went through this?

Hi there

I'm sorry you are having this nightmare. Yes, bleeding is common in early pregnancy but your Doctor should be taking this a lot more seriously than he did. I'm hoping your midwife will take you a lot more seriously. I really think you need to go and get a scan asap to put your mind at rest. x

What time is your midwife appt? If it is this afternoon I would try calling her this morning. She may want you to go for a scan at the EPU. Some units are pretty busy so getting a same day scans can be tricky so the sooner you call the midwife the more chance of getting a scan soon (if she thinks it is necessary to have one). You can also call your EPU directly yourself and ask for their advice....

hope that everything is fine xxx

Hi ya

Thanks for coming back to me.

My appointment is at 3.00pm. I tried to call my EPU since last night!
Finally got someone this morning but she said the doctor needs to find the cause of the pain and only come back if I was heavily bleeding?
I had a scan last week and everything was fine but I wasn't in so much pain last week. I will try to call the midwife and see what she says.
I can't even think and paracetamol doenst seem to do much?

Hi all,

Thank you for your lovely messages.
I am just back from the hospital and we saw our little babies rocking!
They are both fine and the doctor cannot say why I am in pain. They said I had a miscarriage threat and have to take it one day at a time. But if the pain got stronger I had to go back.

I have to say they were really nice and answered all my questions.
So I believe it depends who you get on the phone as the nurse didn't want me to come down but when I said the midwife told me to come, she said if is up to you but I don't see the point!

I am glad I called the midwife and got scanned today.
I just pray now for the bleeding to go away and my babies to stay well put.
Thanks jensqui for your advice, it might sound silly but I couldn't think this morning was in so much pain.

I am now taking it easy and might stay at home again tomorrow but they said there was nothing I could do so hopefully they will stick with me.
Do you know when I can consider myself "safe"? I suppose it will be later than 12 weeks for twins?

so pleased to hear that the babies are well!! I guess we worry throughout the entire pregnancy but after 12 weeks, once the placenta takes over and a lot of the key cell development has taken place usually seems like a safer zone for most people.

There really isn;t anything you can do, but taking it easy will, at least, make you feel like you are doing all that you can. I believe that an SCH can cause pain but if they did not mention this or see anything on the scan last week or this then ignore me! Although, I had a bleed at 10 weeks with my daughter and went for a scan at the EPU. Although they could not see any signs of SCH on the scan the EPU nurse said it could have been a small one.

hope the pain eases soon for you xxx

Brilliant news:-)) could the pain be related to scar tissue? Have you ever had surgery?

Thanks girls I am soo relieved as well.

Feeling quite emotional this afternoon though. DH is not happy because in his eyes I made a big drama out of it and the babies are fine. How on earth am I suppose to know that everything is ok if I am bleeding and in pain. I know it is his way of releasing his emotions but still cannot understand his comment. He said next time react in a cold manner and do not panic otherwise I will make the bad things happen. How am I supposed not to be scared, this is my first pregnancy and been feeling shxxx since day one and just trying to understand what is going on with my body. I feel exhausted, sick and really lost but dh is not the type to express his feeling so there you go , I suppose this was too much for him.

The main thing is the babies are well.

19verve i have never had any operation in my life. I am quite used to pain as I suffer from back problems but this was out of this world and very different to the pain I have been bearing lately, which was growing pain.

Thanks girls again for your support, still in pain though so off for lying.

Ahh delighted everything is ok with your babies. I bled very early on also and I understand completely why you reacted the way you did cause I did too and I didn't have to pain to go with it! Try taking it easy thats all you can do honey  but the fact that babies are doing well is a very good sign xxx

((((more hugs))))

i would have been totally freaking out - anyone would be but even more so when you've been through so much to get this far.
being stressed is not going to make bad things happen so please don't worry about that.
my DP doesn't show feelings easily either, i'm sure your DH was also worried and was thinking that worrying isn't going to help but you can't help worrying!

take care and take it easy :cuddle
