Bad cold and sore throat at 38 weeks

Morning all

Ive got a bad cold and a sore throat and Im 38 weeks tomorrow, does anyone know what I am able to take to get rid of them (if anything), should I go to docs (dont want to waste their time if they are going to say 'cant give you anything, just stay warm') ?

Thank you

Hi,

You can safely take the recommended dose of paracetamol for a start. That should take the edge off your sore throat and, if you have a temperature, bring it down.

You can't have Lemsip but you can make yourself a hot lemon and honey drink (no whisky unfortunately!). Squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a cup, add a big spoonful of honey and fill up with hot water. Sip it while it's hot. The honey will soothe your throat, the lemon has vitamin C and wakes up your senses and the heat and steam should unblock you.

Hot Vimto or Ribena is quite comforting too if you don't like lemon and honey.

Bells, you beat me to it!

I was told that I could do a steam inhalation too, which really helped.

Hope you feel better soon hun x

Oh no, sorry to hear that. I had a really awful sore throat and cough when I was in the second trimester and was given some baby friendly anti-biotics by the doctor. Within days of taking them I felt much better. So they can give you something, depending on what it is you have. xx
