Am I drugging my twins??

Hello
I'm having horrible morning sickness and am still chucking my guts up regularly at 14 weeks. The doctor prescribed me phenergyl last week as I was going on holiday and wanted something for the flight. She got very judgemental about me taking it, saying I was just to take it for a couple of days whilst I was travelling. However, I enjoyed only throwing up twice a days as opposed to 8 so am still taking it. Am a bad mother already?? To make things worse my wisdom tooth is loose and the gum around it is infected and it is unbearably painful. I went to the dentist who said he doesn't want to take it out if possible as he doesn't want to give me anaesthetic when pregnant. He's prescribed me penicillin to take down the infection. So. I'm taking phenergyl (very low dose) penicillin and paracetemol for the toothache. I feel reassured by the fact I am post first trimester but still feel guilty.
Am I endangering the babies do you think? Thank you.

Is Phenergyl Promethazine??? I'm guessing its a brand name.

You will find that the morning sickness just stops. I was being sick in week 14 but then 15 weeks it just went! I was taking procholperazine (which is promethazine) from about 5 weeks up to 14 weeks.

Penicilin is safe in pregnancy and paracetamol is safe too.

I don't think you're drugging them chick. The doctor wouldn't have prescribed it.

I was prescribed Piriton for O but when I got home and read the label it said only for 12 months +, so called the pharmacist and spoke to them and they reassured me. If you are in any doubt then speak to a pharmacist. They know drugs better than GP's so I always check if I'm unsure.

You are certainly not a bad mother already. :cuddle

Thanks Flic. Yes, phernergyl is the same as promethazine. How much were you taking a day? I'm probably taking about 30 mg a day. It's just that I'm combining it with paracetemol and penicillin that worries me. x

I think I was taking it3/4 times a day so about 30/40mg. I can't find my box (I keep everything!) but I'm sure it was something like that.

I wouldn't wory about combining it. If they said that its ok. Paracetamol will just kill any pain. And penicillin is one of the antibiotics that is safe to take in pregnancy.

I hope the sickness eases for you soon honey. I remember how ill I felt. I was signed off work for weeks.

Sorry to hear you are still suffering aramass. I am still enjoying the delights of regular :puke: sessions and have discussed this with my Doc on several occasions. Neither of us were keen for me to take anything, that said, I'm about 2-3 times a day when it's happening and it's not every day, probably 5 days or so a week.. but I'm eating little and often, drinking lots and babies are growing well.. so I'm happy to keep going if I can without anything.. That said, I feel lousy and am sure with 8 times a day, you are feeling even worse.. and I'm sure if mine got worse, I'd consider taking something as you do need to be able to function to a certain degree and stay heathly. I hope it stops for you soon.. I'm still living in hope that mine will

I was like you Arramass. Chucking up repeatedly. I couldn't even keep water down, couldn't brush my teeth. It was really really bad times. I think I was given them because I couldn't eat anything or drink anything.

Aramass, I've looked it up for you. Its recommended for short term treatment only if you are at risk of dehydration if you sdon't take it. The book says if symptoms don't settle in 24-48 hours then specialist medical opinion should be sought. There is no data that it causes any harm but that might just be because there's no data full stop so the aim is to keep drugs to a minimum. I agree with Flic, the pharmacist is the best person to ask, your midwife might have a useful opinion too. Hope you feel better soon.

AGain. Thank you! I think it the fog might be finally lifting.....I'm now down to 10 mg a day. Could this be the start of the feeling better??? I don't want to speak too soon.
