Under consultant as IVF baby,24 wk appt?

Hello all,
Was just wondering how common it was to be under a consultant if you`re having an IVF baby?
Do they keep a closer eye on things because of this and you don`t just have midwife care?

I`ve got a 24wk appointment on Wednesday with cons and wondered what to expect.
Will I get more scans??

yeh im cons led care purely as ivf

i have 32 and 36 week scans for growth and see consultant at those times as well

I see the cons every 4-5 weeks and she scans me everytime we go. It was originally because I started off with twins but lost one - and she has kept me on more for re-assurance more than anything else.

Pammy I'm the same as you I don't even get a 20 week scan. I'm mw lead but I do have a scan booked for 34 weeks to check the growth.

I'm under consultant as well due to being IVF. At the first appointment all he did was tell me his name, shake my hand, dopple the baby and make me feel old! I think you are supposed to have more scans, I'm having one at 28 weeks then I think I get one between 32-36 weeks but I don't see the consultant again until 36 weeks. I think what standard of care you get depends greatly on where you are and what hospital you are attending.

Hi Kazzy

I had my first ivf consultant appointment last week.

She asked me about the ivf and because the issue was with my hubby and that my pregancy so far had been good she said that I didn't need to see her as that the rest of my visits can be midwife led.

During the appointment, we listened to the heartbeat and she asked me a few questions, but that was about it.

Hello all,
Well, had my appointment.
She did give me a short scan, and think she measured the head and stuff to check for growth, other then that I didn`t see much more apart from the heartbeat.
Won`t see her now until i`m 32 weeks

Seems the main difference is between England and scotland there then.

We get no consultant care for IVF (or ICSI) Christine just to let you know my MW said no 20 week scan here either, told her we would pay private and she checked and under new legislation in our area if you have had IVF or ICSI then you are entitled to 20 scan. Maybe you should get her to check again. We dont get growth scan though and was told it would be a trainee doing the 20 scan and they are often getting things wrong and scaring the mothers!!! Arg

I have a question. Why do some people get the NT scan and others dont? Is it ment to be better than the blood test at 16 weeks?

Hi i had to see a consultant at 14 weeks and she just asked me some questions and felt my belly, i was told by the midwife it was because i had pcos but to be honest it was a joke, she didnt seem to no what she was doing she didnt scan me or listen to heartbeat she didnt ask about the ivf and then she said ive just got to nip out and ask for a second opinion (from the consultant i was supposed to be seeing) and then came back in and told me shes happy for me to just see the midwife and told me i have to have a glucose test at 28 weeks because of having pcos i could get baby diabetes,and that was it, i think she may have been a student.
seems different hospitals have different ways of doing things!

I was hoping to be under consultant(or any doctor care) as I had lot of probs with IVF. No that didnot happend,i was discharged to my midfive who recommended home delivery. Yeh wright that is my first pregnancy, I am over 30y.o., that s IVF pregnacy on top of other gynae problems, why not to plan home birth so trust doesnot have to spend any money on a hospital bed

Esha, hi, sorry i was silent for sometime, congratulations first of all. We donot get NT scan from NHS here but we can arrange it, it costs £254, you need to contact Dr Smith at 0122452375. NT scan is combined with blood test at 12 weeks and it is more accurate and gen better. Why do we not get it, I think it is money once again. ( I ll have mine on the 2/12, I am scared as usual)

Hi

I'm under consultant as well but I had IUI, but also had two pregnancy one in my tube which they removed and a normal pregnancy that maybe why??? due to see him when 20 weeks
