New Preemie Mum

Hayley, it's definitely quite common for them to get tired and regress briefly. I remember when Elizabeth came off the ventilator they said she might need to go back on it, and similarly when she came off CPAP. Your two are still very tiny and every step is a major one. Great that Elliot's lumbar puncture result was clear, and congrats on giving him his first cuddle. It's amazing, isn't it? And particularly amazing how much good it will have done him - skin-to-skin contact has so many benefits f...

New Preemie Mum

Hayley, it sounds like they're doing really well - congratulations! My daughter Elizabeth was born at 29+3 and we were in NNU for 6 weeks and she made nice steady progress. If they are coping well with CPAP they are well on their way. Platinum x

THIRD TRIMESTER CHAT - 2010

Hey Natural Horse - please can I be added to the hall of due dates? Platinum, due 7 Feb 2011, yellow bump - BUT... I have news! Our daughter Elizabeth arrived 10 weeks and 4 days early (at 29+3) on 25 November, weighing 3lbs. She is doing really well, though will be on the neonatal unit until some time in January. I had some brown spotting for about a fortnight, but when it turned red and got heavier we went to be checked out. While attached to the monitor, the baby's heart rate dripped and we w...

THIRD TRIMESTER CHAT - 2010

Kelly – thanks for finding the time to tell us all about your girls’ birth – many congratulations! I hope they both settle into feeding and can come home soon! Bouncytigger – hope you’re managing to rest up and it’s doing the trick. I’m not sure laundry is on the list of acceptable tasks though – be careful! Hopeful – great news that the scan was good and the baby is engaged. It must be so hard with your Mum, especially at this time. Claire – yay for the baby being ready and engaged. Hope you’re...

THIRD TRIMESTER CHAT - 2010

I've just noticed that I've moved in here a few days early - hope that's not tempting fate in any way. I will keep quiet until next Monday!

THIRD TRIMESTER CHAT - 2010

I thought it was time to be brave and move into the 3rd trimester – knock knock! Some of you will know me from earlier threads, but here’s a quick summary of me and the pregnancy so far: It’s a singleton IVF pregnancy, successful at the second fresh cycle (fourth embryo transfer) after blood screening revealed some antibodies for Lupus and cardiolipins (which means I’m on anticoagulants: Clexane and Aspirin). I had secondary OHSS at the start of pregnancy, which was fortunately caught early and ...

SECOND TRIMESTER CHAT - 2010

Keep the Faith – I have an anterior and low-lying placenta, and didn’t feel the baby move until 21 weeks, so I’m sure it’s all ok and your baby is just being a bit shy. I know your consultant is being a bit paranoid, but at least you get another scan and a chance to see the baby and know that all’s progressing well. Some people would be jealous! Lucky – LOL, you will get some more questions I’m sure! Love it! Blessings – it’s so lovely to hear how you’re getting on with the nursery. I’m finally ...

SECOND TRIMESTER CHAT - 2010

Hi everyone! Sammie – great that all’s well at the scan, and I sympathise with house-related problems as ours is in the midst of building work. Hope you get the mould sorted. Emz – I didn’t feel anything until 21 weeks but then it was proper kicks. We’re all different, so don’t worry if you’re not sure you’re feeling movement yet. Dramaqueen – well done on deciding re. the flu jab. I have asked for lots of opinions from the ‘experts’ and they all differ, so am still on the fence. Went to a big d...

Swine Flu Vaccine

mrsjasper - ouch! I asked another midwife yesterday and she started off saying the offical stuff about it being recommended to have the jabs, but ended up saying she thought it was a whole load of panic over nothing much! Seems the health 'professionals' I have dealt with haven't read this literature you refer to? Speaking of which, is this literature in the public domain? I'd love to know more about it in order to make my own informed decision. If you can point me in the right direction I'd be ...

SECOND TRIMESTER CHAT - 2010

Tiggs – just to let you know that the midwife said I shouldn’t bother with the NHS antenatal classes if I’m doing NCT as NCT are superior – funny, a friend said her NHS session was really good. I guess it depends on who delivers it. BlueEyes – welcome to the 2nd trimester! How lovely to have felt a kick from your little girl so early. The kicks still make me smile Daezil – , another surprise just like me I’m dreading people commenting on whether I’m big or small for how far gone I am – I am thin...

OHSS QUESTIONS

I agree with the others that your GP will not be enough of an expert on OHSS and you ought to be under a consultant for regular checks. I also agree about weighing and measuring - I did this (forgot to mention that in PM earlier). At the hospital I was prescribed co-codamol when I was discharged, but I wasn't in pain so didn't need it. Paracetemol is clearly not enough though. I also agree that heparin may be required (brand name in UK is Clexane). Low dose Aspirin too. Especially if you are qui...

HELP: Suprecur not worked after 2 weeks & am still ovulating.

Hi Taxihome 3 weeks on Suprecur (Buserelin) 0.5ml did nothing for me either. I then had two further weeks on 1ml which finally did the trick. On subsequent cycles I was straight on to 1ml. Sometimes our body just fights it!

Now I'm really confused

Aly, sorry to hear you will need to down reg for a while longer. I didn't have quite the same problem as you, but on my first cycle I down regged on Buserelin for 3 weeks but my lining was too thick, so I went on double the dose for another two weeks before it was ok. Very frustrating. These cysts are quite common - I had one while on Clomid previously - and at least they know what to do with it. And try not to worry about all the extra drugs - on the cycle that worked for me I was on loads of e...

Swine Flu Vaccine

I'm another one sitting on the fence. I'm a high risk pregnancy (see my footer) and I have asked a number of health professionals and got a number of different replies: Obstetrician: I wouldn't have them if I were you - your body is dealing with enough Haematologist: I hardly ever get myself or my children vacceinnated - it's just an NHS way of making money. But that's my personal opinion, not a professional one! Midwife: If it were me that was pregnant I wouldn't have them - but that's speaking...

Anyone had or been referred for a fetal heart echo scan?

Fab news - so pleased for you. And it must be nice to know they've done an extra check and all is definitely well!

SECOND TRIMESTER CHAT - 2010

Emma24 – I didn’t feel any movement until 21 weeks, but didn’t do the Doppler thing. Now I do feel movement though, I worry when it is less – you can’t win! Congrats on the low risk result too. Keep the Faith – I sympathise you, with being treated so differently, being an IVF pregnancy. My situation is a bit different in that it’s an IVF pregnancy but I have a number of other risk factors so have no problem with being taken extra care of, but I agree with you that if you don’t have a history of ...

Tender hard tummy!!

Hiya NYH I have been getting a very hard tummy very low which hurts. I have just put it down to the baby getting bigger and stretching out for more room - and indeed my tummy has got a bit bigger these last couple of weeks! It's definitely worth asking the midwife though if you're worried.

Anyone had or been referred for a fetal heart echo scan?

I haven't had one, but I know someone who had one after being diagnosed with gestational diabetes which can be associated with heart problems. Hers came back fine. Try not to worry (easier said than done!) - I'm sure it is just a formality, and it will be reassuring to know that everything is definitely ok.

SECOND TRIMESTER CHAT - 2010

Bee – you’re like my husband, loving a cooked brekky every morning! I had nuts and cheese today which was a bit weird but no worse than egg and beans! I know what you mean about how your voice must sound under all that flesh, haha. Tiggs – congratulations on your pink bump – great to hear all’s well too. Becky, Emma, my midwife said they didn’t listen until the 25 week appt and I didn’t argue as I would have been worried had she failed to pick it up – actually I think she was just a bit busy at ...
