Ranitidine Dosage??!!

Hiya, As the original Dr was through NHS 24 she was a random doctor working on call - I actually can't even remember her name. Today's local doctor has referred us to the pediatrician at the local hospital but we are likely to have to wait weeks for the appt. Although LO was 4 weeks early, other than jaundice he showed no other signs of complications and therefore was treated pretty much like a term baby. However, i do believe that his intestinal/gut problems are attributed to under-developed sy...

Ranitidine Dosage??!!

Thanks for your reply Scarlett, The doctor we saw at NHS 24 one weekend prescribed it. We had reached breaking point and I couldn't face another night without intervention. From looking around doing a bit of 'googling' I have found that the original dosage seems to have been the most consistant with everyone else.

Ranitidine Dosage??!!

Sorry it's me again!! What dosage are your LOs on? My son was 12lbs and prescribed 1ml 3 times a day. He is now 14lbs+ and the doctor we saw today says he is now taking too much for his current weight (still 1ml 3x a day) Surely there is a recognised formula to be used when calculating dosage - which doctor is wrong? How long between naps?

Thanks for the advice Grace, He he! Cheeky monkey My mum always maintained that me and my siblings began weaning just after 4months, again finding that we were ready - she introduced new things very slowly and I think as long as its done this way no harm can be done. Hope you've had a good weekend x

How long between naps?

Grace, I'm so sorry that your HVs are no use - its really not fair that their only response is to push you towards formula. My LO is formula fed, because he was premature and jaundiced and really struggled to cope with the whole latching issue - plus really needed feeding up quick - but to me their job should be to support you in whatever feeding method YOU want! I'm glad to hear your older son finally found peace from acid reflux - the raniditine is now making my son very constipated so we have...

How long between naps?

Hi Grace, My baby boy is 11 weeks (but 4 weeks early so often HV expects less of him developmentally). There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to his naps at the moment. Some days he barely sleeps at all throughout the day and then other days I have to wake him to feed him, and even then he sleeps through it!!!! Generally, a 'normal' day for him involves naps of about 1hr. So . . . . (just working it out!!!) He feeds every 3 hours so must be awake about 2hrs (but this doesn't happen between every ...

Liquid Gaviscon prescribed for baby?

Thanks McFlozzer and Dusky! LO is improving slightly with ranitidine and he has taken to his wedge pillow (although had to purchase a 'snoozzz' baby cradle thingy to stop him sliding down (feel guilty strapping him into bed but he definitely does get a better nights sleep with it. I still think that things could be better though. Dusky - I know what the natures nest is but don't know anyone who has tried it - what is it about it that makes it good for your little one? Also, what is omeprozole (d...

Liquid Gaviscon prescribed for baby?

Hi everyone! After a horrendous 36hrs we ended up at a NHS24 doctor this morning! Came home with Ranitidine for acid reflux (still not 100% sure that's the cause but happy to try for a while!) So far my wee man has been quite settled (but perhaps just sooo tired after NO SLEEP all day yesterday!) Found out from my auntie today that she thinks I had to take a formula free of cow's milk when I was a baby (can't confirm as my mum passed away just a week before my baby boy was born)- so another line...

Liquid Gaviscon prescribed for baby?

Thanks Grace! I bought a wedge pillow this week for his cot and it is helping to a degree once I put him down (although he has cried through the worst of it by the time I do put him down). Health Visitor did mention checking for lactose intolerance if there is no improvement over the weekend - currently keeping a diary of when he feeds, how much he takes, how he reacts and what I do and then whether or not that works. Last night was bad - 2.5hrs to take 6oz (1.30 - 4am!) Lots of crying, arching-...

Liquid Gaviscon prescribed for baby?

Oh no Sultry! That sounds awful for your LO! I am really so confused and don't know what to do for the best! I phoned a different pharmacist to ask their opinion and they said that 1ml per feed is such a small amount that it will be just fine for him. I now really worried about consipation as he is alredy taking C&G Comfort formula due to constipation problems! Aarrgghh!!! Will ask the HV's opinion tomorrow! Thanks for your replies girls! LO is now fast asleep - had his 8 week immunisations toda...

Liquid Gaviscon prescribed for baby?

Oh no! He is now constipated, (I think!) and shifting from uncontrollable screaming to falling asleep in a second!! Am I just being an over-reacting first-time mum? But, I just hate seeing him like this!!

Liquid Gaviscon prescribed for baby?

Hi, My LO is 8 weeks and recently been suffering from silent reflux. Yesterday he was prescribed infant gaviscon (the sachet powder). He is already taking C&G comfort milk to ease constipation and when I mixed in the gaviscon powder to the formula (which is already thicker than most formulas) it was so thick I could have spooned it to him! Anyway, half an hour after the feed he was screaming in agony and from doing a little internet searching, I found out that it shouldn't be given with a thick ...

Remifentanil - pain relief for birth

Hi guys, Had a search and coundn't find a thread about this topic already. (unless baby brain has REALLY kicked in and i've missed it!) DH and I are just back from an antenatal class about birth and pain relief. We discovered that our local hosp doesn't use pethadine, they use morphine instead. We aren't really keen on using that as it stays in babies blood stream for a while. However, the MW did talk briefly of a 'new drug' (might only be new in our area) called Remifentanil. From what I can re...

Early Pregnancy Symptoms GONE!

Hi, Thanks A and everyone else who send me their advice and best wishes. We have had 2 scans now - 7 weeks scan - showed 2 little foetus' - but only 1 with a heartbeat! Had a second scan today - 8 weeks 2 days - again 1 very strong heart beat but the other sac was empty now! Sad to think one wee one hasn't made it - but feeling really happy now for our wee baby that's growing nicely! Just hope I don't bleed - nurse said there might be a little bleeding or my body would just absorb the empty sac ...

Early Pregnancy Symptoms GONE!

Thanks Nat, I am so glad everything worked out well for you. Keeping my fingers crossed. Have been having a few twinges again down below today - which initially led to serious knickerwatch but I am relaxing a bit now and appreciating the wee twinges as a good sign again. x Foxy x

Early Pregnancy Symptoms GONE!

Hi Alra, So glad to see that everything worked out for you! Wow a 1 and a half year old already!! Thanks for your message too Hayley - if I hadn't been feeling anything yet I probably wouldn't be soo worried. It's because they have gone that it feels strange! Going to try to relax and enjoy. I am teacher and so off work last week and this week - too much time on my hands to worry - once I am back at work the time will hopefully fly by! x

Early Pregnancy Symptoms GONE!

Hi girls! I am about 5 weeks and a couple days pregnant. BFP blood test (13DPO, bHCG of 220) , I am still taking Crinone each night. (1st scan not until 27th April - 17 long days away!) I have been having cramps and very sore boobs since before the positive test - but since last night - I have no more symptoms. They have just vanished!! No bleeding either though, which I know is still a good sign. But no sickness at all and I just don't FEEL pregnant today. Contacted clinic and the nurse didn't ...
